Most people can have a conversation without resorting to baby names like Microshit and HD DUD. You should try it sometime and not be mad about a corporation. If you are truly sore about this, might I introduce you to the joys of a woman?

I was just remarking at what you said about why people are upset with microshit and the shitbox, I replied with an honest answer. people act like this when they feel betrayed or not liked or a company that tries to shut down something they like. im all for the blu ray going to the shit box. am i going to get another shitbox hell NO! two breaking on me is enough. one was an elite with rrod. Ah Sony revionist FUD.

1, PS1 was HARDLY the first system to use cds. It was predated YEARS earlier by the TurboGrafx 16 and the Sega CD, as well as PC gaming. Hell the Sega Saturn was out before the ps1 and it used CD's as well!

2. DVD was available for gaming on PC before the ps2 shipped. In fact, dvd drives were standard at that time. Not every game shipped on a DVD, but then again, neither did every ps2 game.

1) you can't have revisionist FUD. FUD is to insteal fear uncertainty and doubt in a competing product. Do you honestly think I am trying to scare anyone away from TurboGrafx 16 or a Sega anything

2) the discussion brought up in the article was that Sony was trying to help BD by adding it to the PS3. Even though that is partially true, I think it is obvious that they would have gone with something better then DVD no matter what it was, If Sony was working on VMD or HD DVD or some other format then I think they would have used that one (even if BD was better) but they would have gone beyond DVD just because DVD is not good enough.

3) the question is risking the console by going with a relatively new AV disk to add capabilities. so PCs don't count because there is no risk to anyone (except the buyer, and even that, is a maybe) and neither do add-ons.

4) I might have gotten a bit sloppy, and I will admit to that, but the discussion was about the different views of gamiong consoles between the three current manufacturers.

Thats cool. I understand what you were trying to say, i was just pointing out that I wouldnt consider ps1/ps2 as risks. It IS a risk to have BD with the ps3 ( or at least it WAS) because it drove up the cost of the system and delayed its launch. It seems to be a gamble that has worked though, as it is now the best bd player on the market, and attracts gamers as well as movie buffs.

not at all, I think the problem is that some are such blind MS fans and anti Sony/BD haters that everything is about bashing Sony.

DVD might have been a bit older then BD when Sony decided to add it to the PS3, but it was not a well established format yet. Like BD when the PS2 launched DVD was still very new and very expensive. Many people (like the PS3) bought the PS2 as their first DVD player. And if you go back to 99 and 2000 you will see (like in 2005/2006) just as many people saying they where risking their device on a new format, while now I am sure everyone will agree it would have been stupid if they went CD again

As for people being Sony (or PS) fanboys, I had an Xbox last generation and the only reason I bought a PS3 this one was that I thought that the next generation needed a better disk media because DVD is not enough.
