Microwave popcorn is TOO salty but not the right kind of buttery if you ask me.
Although I used to live in Popcorn hell called Target and have to make it everyday in my teen years for 2 years, I'm actually not in hate of Popcorn. Odd isn't it? I would be bothered if the butter started rotting everything in place and staining things by its smell and possibly color. |

I scored a small Paragon Theater 4 on eBay really cheap, under $175 including shipping.
A couple of months later, I added an exhaust fan just above the machine to vent the oily steam so it would not affect the the projector lens and overwhelm the home theater. I bought a 50 lbs. bag of popcorn for $15 and Flavacol for $3 at a restaurant supply store and small tubs of Lou Ana coconut oil at Wal-Mart. No regrets. |

Got mine from popthis.com a few years ago (4 oz.) I think it was on sale for around 270ish
http://popthis.com/ this is the popper I got http://popthis.com/theaterpop4oz.html I love their popcorn (and so does the rest of the family) I do recommend getting these for popcorn. They are pre-measured for the popcorn, oil and salt http://popthis.com/54ozsnappak.html I get the 1st 45 packs for 18 buck is not bad, they also sell popcorn bags, flavored salts and other stuff. good luck |

A couple of brands of popcorn machines that I like are Cretors and Gold Medal.
Check to see how the popcorn is kept warm. If you want to keep the machine in your home theater and the popcorn is warmed only by a flood light you might have a problem if a large amount of light bothers you. If it has a heating element in the bottom of the machine (not talking about the kettle) you can partly unscrew the flood light and just let the heating element keep the popcorn warm thus keeping the stray light levels down in your theater. Look into buying the pre-measured packs that include the popcorn, salt and popping oil. You can do without these, but it makes it a lot easier. The popcorn seed retains more of its moister in a sealed package. The moisture is needed for a good popped kernel. Check to see if you can buy these locally because shipping will cost about the same as the product, if not more. Also buy a new pack of cloth diapers. After you are through popping, wipe the kettle inside and out to prevent build up of oil and salt. It is fast and easy and makes cleaning a lot easier. If you wipe it down after popping you can easily keep it clean with glass cleaner and paper towels at a later time. Now for the butter – get an electric baby bottle warmer (single), buy a squeezable food service bottle that you can heat, then fill it with your favorite buttery topping. Your table top butter does not work well as it contains too much water and tends to make the popcorn soggy. If you like real butter, may I suggest Odell’s as it is made for theater popcorn. They also have a good butter substitute. Also a popping tip: Leave a door on the machine slightly open (not enough to let the popcorn pop out of the machine). This allows some of the steam to escape during the popping and allows for crisper popcorn. Last edited by Cinema; 03-24-2008 at 05:36 AM. |

I think it would be a pain to clean. I use Orville Redenbacher's pour over butter popcorn. It's a microwave bag, and then when its done you pour out the butter from a seperate pouch.
