One question I have for some experts in here is this. Is a scope movie on Blu-Ray anamorphic, where it uses all of the resolution on the movie and just adjusts the aspect ratio after like anamorphic DVDs do, or is the letterbox actually using up resolution and space on the disc? I'm sure scope projectors will be getting more popular as BD gets more popular and this would help the owners of said projectors get the best picture.

So a 1.375 Academy sound movie on HDTV should be 1080 x 1485 pixels, a 1.78 HDTV shot program should be 1080 x 1920 pixels, a 1.85 Widescreen movie should be 1038 x 1920 pixels, a 2.39 Panavision movie should be 803 x 1920 pixels, etc. (In practice movies shot in Super-35 2.39 (or 1.85) ratio scanned at 2K or 4K should be cropped from the 2K's approx. 820 x 1960 (or 1070 x 1970) pixel Projector Aperture area, to 820 x 1920 (or 1070 x 1920) so there's no pixel sharpness degradation. Probably also open matte the Super-35 1.85 1070 height to 1080 to 'fill' the screen too) Digital NTSC and PAL use 'anamorphic' encoding. (For BOTH 4:3 and 16:9 shaped displays: NTSC square pixel ratio is 1.50, and PAL is 1.25. That data is then re-mapped or displayed as 4:3 or 16:9 on your TV.) Quote:
![]() (For people on a budget, if your projector already has a zoom lens built in, you can do something similar too by positioning the projector approximately so that it fills your Scope screen (or plain wall!) at the maximum zoom, and for 1.85/1.37 movies you zoom back to minimum size till they fit on the Scope screen's height.) |

Unless you have a Projector with very high CR it can be annoying you can get a projector that does the stretching, make a DIY lense and screen. I have seen several people doing it. ![]() |

Even if there was, most of DVD including BD are scope (2,39.1) and I don't see Studios burnning movies 2.35.1. Commercial Theater still uses the same set up as we CIH owners use to achive their scope presentation. here a good sight. http://www.thelooniverse.com/movies/...tio.html#scope |
