Going by his user name and mention of SCART cables I think the OP might live in Italy.

My bad... it was way too early when I posted that. I had just woke up. I was under the impression component only could handle 720p/1080i?

^ Most hardware can only handle 720p/1080i over component, but with the right equipment and high quality cables, it can do 1080p as well.

Welcome to the site. I am sure everyone else here has pointed you the right way already...
But yes you want HDMI (High Definition Multimedia Interface). If your TV supports it, this is the best for quality of BOTH video AND sound. One cable does everything! If you have a receiver, hook up the HDMI to the back of that, and then to your TV. If not, go straight to the TV.
If you can't handle HDMI, use component cables, these have the same red and white audio, but then adds green, blue, and red for the video for HD.
HDMI will give you 7.1 surround sound if you have the set up, while optical audio gives up to 5.1.
The best thing to do is use all HDMI if you can. But get the cheap cables as the expensive ones are not worth the price (over $100 US right now).
If you want HD cable/sat as well, contact your cable/sat company and get an HDMI capable box, and do the same thing.
Good luck and long live the Blu!

Yes HDMI will be a big difference. The reason the movie is almost like DVD is that using composite the PS3 needs to change the movie to SD, just like when you played back the DVD

As for games, if you are into shooters, Resistance: Fall of man is a real good game

Considering it is a 32" Plasma (I think that size in Plasma is relatively new) I think HDMI is a safe bet. But you are right, better safe then sorry.

So in case you don't have HDMI then buy the PS3 component cable.

Unless your 32" Plasma is 1080p I doubt an HDMI cable is really going to change much. If you ask me, it sounds like your display is just too small to be able to tell the difference between DVD and Bluray so I don't think getting an HDMI cable will really help.

But with that said, still not a bad idea to buy one anyway and test it out for yourself, just be smart and buy cheap like others are saying. But I would start scoping out some larger sets if you really want to see why BluRay is superior to DVD

I have a 32" LCD, and it isn't even 1080p, just 1080i. But I can clearly tell the difference between the three color wire and the HDMI. When I plug the three color wire in, everything looks blurry and crappy. Whether they be DVD, games, Blu-ray. But once I plug the HDMI in, all the hi-def stuff looks super clear. It's beautiful to be exact.

So I recommend all HDTV owner to purchase an HDMI cable either way.

Agreed, and with HDMI cables going for $5 on the site mentioned above, there is no reason anyone with an HDTV and an HDMI available connection to be using composite cables! Just stay away from those monster rip off cables, I knew they were ridiculously priced, but damn I just saw some for $125, that's crazy lol

Please forgive me for my questions as I'm sure you all think I'm a donut!

I recently bought a PS3 & discovered the Blue-ray function on it

I'm using the cable (that came in the PS3 box) to connect my 32inch LG plasma with the PS3...

I bought Superman Returns on BlueRay from HMV,watched it & while the quality is great...its still the sameish quality as from a normal dvd player

Is this because there are specific HD cables to link the PS3 & TV sold seperatly that I can buy?

And if so could any of you recomend one to me please?

Sorry for the questions again & thanks for looking!

Danny

Just to let you know I hooked up my HDMI cable to my PS3

The PS3 ran through everything for me (HDMI cable is detected,do you wish to switch to the mode etc)

Watched a blu-ray dvd...wooooo,what can i say...amazing quality!

I want to buy a larger TV now!!

Thanks to everyone!

Two things:

1. Never ask if HDMI is better than composite ever, ever again!
2. Never call it "blue"-ray ever, ever again!

And welcome aboard!
