You just need to lift the edge of the carpet up and run the wire along the edge of the wall. It can be a little tedious to do it, but afterwards you won't even know it's there. Experiment pulling up the edge in an inconspicuous place to see how it's done and what it will do for you. You should be able to push the edge of the carpet back down without anyone being the wiser.

Carpet isn't usually glued. I always stretch it and staple it using an industrial stapler. The problem you might run into is getting it properly stretched again but that is more of an issue with thinner carpeting.
