I have had 3 Palm Treo's.. its funny you say that because I feel the complete opposite..

That stylus can kiss my a$$! The resolution of those things and blackberry's must be like 10x10dpi but anyways it's exciting to see two giant tech items join.. Sony PS3 and Apple iPhone..wondertwins activate..

The article makes it sound like this will work with any BD-Live player so is this a feature that is part of the BD-LIve specs and mandatory on every BD-Live player? If so, why would they put something in the specs that will only work for a single manufacters device? That seems kinda weird.

I'll await details, but I think it would be dumb to have blu-ray features that will only work with products from one company. If the hooks are there for these type of features, they should be available for any product that wants to use them. Is that the case?

Default Remote control

On the website it says developers could make the iPhone / iPod Touch work as a remote control.

Somebody please get this working for the PS3, for full XMB navigation and control without switching on the TV which draws 200-300 W, heats the room, puts needless wear on the display etc -- very dumb when all you want to do is navigate your music collection, tweak the volume, arrange DLs etc.

I hope someone finally works this out. I would happily scrounge up an iPod Touch (maybe an old 4GB model) just to use as a remote.

agreed...i had a treo and I would rather piss on myself than browse the internet on that thing.

it would no doubt be awesome if XMB could be displayed on my iphone.

From reading the final article it sounds like they just have an SDK available and people are going to have to decide to add it to disks or players. So if I'm reading it right, for this to work with the PS3 as a remote, Sony would need to add this in as a firmware update. I doubt they will do that - they already have Remote Play for the PSP.

Rats. BTW, last time I checked (this was a few mo. back) 'Remote Play' lets you play music stored on the PS3 through the PSP; you can't play through external speakers (basically using PS3 as a hi-fi with PSP as its remote control). Did they change it to allow this feature?

Home Screen

The iPhone displays what movie you are currently watching and retrieves cover art from the Internet.

Now Playing

Additional information about the film is downloaded and displayed

Add to Collection
Update your personal catalogue of Blu-ray discs by adding the title to your collection. You can also get movie suggestions based on your viewing habits and manage your rental queue all while watching the movie.

I guess my point was that if Sony was going to allow anything to act as a Blu-Ray remote it would be the PSP before the iPhone. I really don't see them adding iPhone functionality that the PSP doesn't do. I could always be wrong, but would just seem like a bad idea for Sony to do.

Dude seriously.. this has nothing to do with Sony.. it is an Apple SDK app from netbender..

It is all about the possible future.. just like blu-ray back in the day.. just like profile 2.0.. bd live ..

No offense.. but take the time to read from the Netbender site.. or the OP.

If it has bluetooth technology, wifi.. people will utilize whatever possibilities they can on the PS3.. it is an iPhone app NOT a sony bd or PS3 app THUS Netbender could care less about "SONY".

My Shark little keyboard works on my PS3 and Sony didnt have anything to do with it.

I did read the article and the article said nothing about bluetooth. The article stated the app would use the network port to communicate with the player. If it is going to use the network port then you need either the player to support the feature or support for the iphone app would have to be in a BD-LIVE feature on the disk.

A basic bluetooth remote you could certainly do, but to pull data like what disk is playing will either require the player to support this or for that disk to have the iphone code as bd-live on the disk and if you can only pull data from certain disks that would limit the usefullness of the app.

So enlighten me then. If I put a Pirate of the Carribean blu-ray in my PS3 then how is my iPhone going to know that disk is in the PS3 so it can add it to my collection?

It sounds like a reall cool app, but I really question if it is more hype then substance. It promises a lot, but when you get down to how are you going to really do all these things it gets a little murky for me.

Any BD Live player will support this feature - automatically.. it will be dependant on the disk. Pirates was just a movie example..displayed..

Future participating disk would have the BD Touch encode on it, as long as the player is profile 2.0 it would work. This is a yet another feature available to use.

Does BD touch turn the iPhone into a remote control for your Blu-ray player? That is one potential application of the technology, but BD Touch can take advantage of all of the iPhone's interactive capabilties such as geo-location, mapping, search and more.

Do my movies need to already have BD Touch on the disc? Yes BD Touch will work with future movies that are authored with BD touch features.

Blu-ray Disc authorers can add BD Touch features to their discs with point-and-click ease using DoStudio BD Authoring Edition. The BD Touch framework is built into DoStudio so BD Touch applications can be imported as plugins and applied to discs in an intuitive, script-free environment
