Sorry for misleading title and misspelled Bill's name.

I was trying to fixed the title, however, I found I can't change the title after post it.

I was too excited to read Bill's quotes correctly.

Thank you so much Warner for all the extra effort you've put into these Blu-rays. We apparently waited for nothing. I hope Warner got plenty of money from Toshiba to have those exclusives so long on HD DVD.

I have to get all of those titles. I have been waiting way too long for The Matrix, and V for Vendetta.

Double and triple dipping in the future, no doubt about that

So....The Perfect Storm is getting a new remaster? aka not the HD Dvd version. I heard horrible things as far as that went. Also, 70% of the film takes part @ night so it's not going to look the greatest.

I am so not getting the special edition of Batman Begins after hearing that the encode is a HD-DVD port.

First, a number of you had concerns about The Perfect Storm BD (due 7/22). The HD-DVD transfer had some troubling technical issues, but those appear to have been corrected for the BD version. Here's Warner's response on the subject:

"The BD release we have produced for Perfect Storm includes the new 1080p master. This is a brand new encode of a brand new 1080p master."

Amen. I hope one of our insiders has a word with the Warner peeps to tell them how pissed off at this we are. I mean, for fscks sake, they've had more than enough time to rencode all of these movies properly (i.e., optimised for Blu-ray). Given how long we've had to wait, I'd be quite happy to wait a bit longer to get proper encodes.

It's ironic that the only part of the Matrix set that'll the full BD treatment is the animated stuff. How about redoing the movies too, Warner? You know, the part that people actually parted with their cash for...

I was sooo looking forward to getting the Matrix trilogy on Blu. I guess I'll wait it out to see if the inevitable double-dip will have a proper encode. Shame on you, Warner.

Actually, the screen shots of the Matrix trilogy shown on AVSForum seem to be among some of the best WB encodes I've seen... and that's impressive considering I haven't actually seen the trilogy in HD on Blu-ray.

Matrix movies look "OK" on HD DVD, they're comparable to the top warner BD's available now (potter 5, departed). They obviously do not hold a candle to the top tier BD's, but they're not too bad. I am also torn on weather or not to buy the set, animatrix in HD is a big bonus, but im not sure if i'd be happy with the thought of knowing one day they'll be double dipped with a high bitrate encode.

Bill, you should let warner know how their customers feel, which is, pretty much, not happy.

I can understand the frustration with these, really I can. I was in the position of buying an HD DVD player, mainly just for VforV and Batman Begins, but waited because I didn't want to support the compromise that was HD DVD.

BUT . . .

Anybody seen HP and the Order of the Phoenix? It generally gets great reviews in the PQ department, yet is *identical* to the HD DVD version. Of course everyone is entitled to do what they want (although some people here will probably launch a picket line for either side), but if you haven't seen these titles, which are generally considered the cream of the crop for HD DVD, you may want to at least give them a chance before writing them off completely.

what a joke. we wait almost 2 years for the same low bitrate VC-1 encodes. I'll pick up batman begins but that's it from warner on it's catch-up titles. At least the perfect storm is their first title that they see the light on. somebody better tell warner that blu-ray won the war and has superior specs than dud did because these are a slap in the face to us who expect them to maximize the blu-ray spec.

I'll be getting the regular version of Batman Begins. I see no need to pay for more for a HD DVD port.

I think Warner is stuck between a rock and a hard place. Unlike the BD exclusives, they had to do most of their earlier work for HD DVD and port them over to BD. But now that the format's war is gone, they cannot justify doing a new encode without incurring more costs. At the same time, they also need to put out as much new titles as they can to show that they are supporting BD.

Paramount and Universal on the other hand know that the BD community still has some grudges on them, particularly Paramount, so their taking their time with the release schedule is kinda good. They can do a better job at it while keeping their titles high in demand.

Back to topic: I wouldn't be getting The Perfect Storm. But I'll get V4V.

Same here. No extra content, no new encode, no sale.

I will get the ultimate Matrix though; Animatrix in HD is worth it for me, even if (and that's a huge if) The Matrix will be released again with a new transfer. Personally I doubt it.

I think we all should join hands (petition) and express strong dissatisfaction for doing HD DVD port of V and BB.
