He can't afford and XBR5 either. The XBR4 is the same thing, I don't care what anybody says.

i COULD afford it, just don't want to spend 4-5K on a tv. I'd rather have the extra 2-3k for a healthier downpayment on a house. I'm selling my sports car and this is my opportunity to say "hey honey, it's my car and money, so guess what!" I just want to have a TV that looks nice with my bd player |

IF I had 2K I'd probably save it and wait for the Samsung LCDs that are coming out this fall...

Black levels, gray scale and contrast are all more important than resolution, which the Pioneer Kuro 720p is considered to be the best in the market for in that price range. Unless you plan on sitting five feet away you're really not going to experience the benefit of 1080p.

I just spent $2K+tax on a Panasonic 58PE75U from Coscto. Yes, I realize it's not 1080p, but at 10-12', I do not believe I will see an issue (I don't now with my current 55" Sony Wega LCD RPTV). This blows all of Uncle George's "stimulus" check that ought to be here in another week or so. The biggest advantage, for me, is that I can return the set within 90 days if I find I don't like the picture or simply want something different. Maybe by summer the 1080p 58" sets will be closer to the 2K mark. I also get 1% and 2% cashback for being an Executive Member and using my Costco AMX. The only bad part is having to wait 7-10 days for delivery

Ah you will definetly tell a difference with that large a size even from a far difference. 1080P or NO WAY to fully enjoy a BLU RAY |

I don't think you'll see much difference at 12 feet on a 58" screen.
8 feet likely yes, but 12 feet, that's pretty far off. It's certainly not going to be a striking difference. At 12 feet, the benefits of 1080p will START to become noticeable, but for optimal viewing at 12' you'd want a 1080p set that's between 70" to 80". So for 12' you'd be better served with a DLP or projector/screen set-up. |
