It has gotten mostly positive reviews from critics and from sites reviewing hi-def titles but just did so-so at the box-office (just $9 million on its opening weekend, $40 million in the US, $60 million elsewhere). It didn't seem to get promoted very well for it's box-office release and even less for it's release on DVD/blu-ray. I just don't get it. I've mentioned the movie to several of my friends that have kids and none of them knew anything about the movie.

IMO, this movie should have been another "E.T." -like success. It's a great movie and fun for the whole family. It's also a great hi-def release. The PQ/SQ are great and it also has a good number of extras. Most of the people here that have commented on it (the comments I've seen anyway) have also mentioned it being a great movie, having great PQ/SQ and some have also wondered why it didn't do as well as it should or why Sony didn't promote it more. Anyway, it's disppointing since the movie deserves more consideration and a lot more hype than it's getting.

Summary: Great family movie, great PQ/SQ and I'm baffled as to why it hasn't been promoted more.
+1 Great family movie,my mom who's picky when it comes to movies, loved it! Actually the whole family dug it!

The Island didn't do so well at the box office in this country, but did quite well overseas from what I understand.

29th Street
American Splendor
Brighton Beach Memoriors
Out of Sight
are a few that didn't do well at the BO, but IMO were great films that should have brought back a haul!

Wow, I didn't notice that this old timer of a thread was bumped (thanks toef), but I'll say this...The Iron Giant was such an amazing animated movie on its release, but fr some reason, WB never hyped it. I think I still got my old VHS copy around my house somewhere.

One of my fav movies that gets no love at all is "Strange Days". Its a solid sci fi film written by James Cameron and directed by Kathryn Bigelow. It stars Ralph Fiennes, Angela Bassett and Tom Sizemore.

I wouldn't call The Iron Giant underrated, it was only neglected by the studio. Everyone who has seen it thinks it's amazing, mostly.
I think Punch-Drunk Love, the P.T. Anderson film with Adam Sandler is pretty underrated. A lot of people expected another Sandler flick, and it's anything but that.
Stanley Kubrick's Barry Lyndon is also underrated. And Eyes Wide Shut.

Well I've never seen that Sandler film, but from where I'm seeing, its looking to be a cult classic. Maybe I'll catch it some time when I have the chance.

Oh and also the orignal 1986 Transformers movie. It was a major turning point for the series by killing off several characters and introducing new ones. I can't believe
[Show spoiler]Optimus died in the movie
. It pretty much really made the childern cry.

Thursday. Bordering on unknown, Thursday was at the end of the dark comic relief/ shock video train that was Pulp Fiction and the movies it inspired.

I absolutely LOVE this movie and Mickey Rourke was a total Dark Ba$tard in it. Tom Jane brought it in is signature stiff and wooden style and it worked for this film. Great cast, great situations and handled on a very minimal budget and in BIG BIG way.

Tom Jane signed my copy of the DvD two or three years ago at a Chiller Theater convention and he had to think a minute about what the heck the movie was.
