Hugo Weaving: I could see this choice working well
Timothy Olyphant: I found him rather boring in Die Hard 4, and didn't think he is all that great as an actor. I think he would be outclassed by Bale, Caine, & Eckhart (and Freeman, if Fox's character is back in part 3).
Hopefully William Fichtner, even though Nolan wouldn't re-cast him in a different role, is unavailable due to him being busy with Prison Break

I wouldn't mind that...though unlikely

A lot of Batfans wanted Pearce for Harvey Dent/Two-Face, though that would probably have been kinda cliched given his L.A. Confidential role. Eckhart was a more off the wall choice, but looks to be a damn good one nonetheless.

I dont think Robin should be in any of the sequels, it's too distracting and frankly, he's not all that interesting, They need to do something more with the creepiness or Arkham Asylum, It would be cool if it was like the comic, batman has put all the weirdos away and now has to enter after the inmates take control(if you havn't read it, do so, best Batman story ever in my opinon), It would be tough because Joker's in it, but I think the best villian for 3 would be Two Face teaming up with the Mad Hatter(Sean Penn!)

I liked the Philip Seymour Hoffman as the Penguin rumor that was around for a little while too...

Don't worry, after what happened last time Robin was introduced no one will touch that character with a 10 foot pole

There is enough to do with Batman alone, no need to have a Robin introduced for many movies...

Early word is that Two Face is more of a vigilante in the last act of The Dark Knight. Film #3 could focus on Two-Face's descent from vigilante (i.e. trying to get justice, just doing it the "wrong way") to full-fledged criminal. This provides some great contrast to Batman , especially once Batman makes the choice/realization that Two Face must be brought to justice (even though Two-Face has been "wronged") because he's become too great a threat to stability/justice.

Film #1: Creation of Batman. Batman makes his choice and starts "escalation" with the criminals.
Film #2: Escalation. Joker runs wild and Two-Face is created in the mess. Gotham in chaos. Batman questions his role in all of this.
Films #3: Resolution: Two Face takes over the criminal element in Gotham and reorganizes it among the chaos started by the Joker. Batman restores order by bringing Two-Face to justice. This completes the arc.

I could easily see the above being the Nolan Trilogy.
I'll agree with your synopsis. Like many others, I think Nolan has been very successful rebooting the franchise. I'm hopeful TDK will continue to fit the bill.

i thought i remember reading about a nolan interview in which he was asked about Robin being used in later batman's and he said as long as he was doing them then there would be no robin?

while i agree ledger's performance looks amazing from the trailers the reality is sometimes characters have to be recast for various reasons it's the nature of the biz. in regards to batman the only two that i dont see batman surviving being replaced are Bale and Nolan.

i think it would be a huge mistake to abandon the joker as the main villian, The joker is batman's opposite even in the comics and what not batman always has the most trouble w/ the joker b/c batman uses fear, logic, and his detective skills to capture people and the joker is completely insane so there is no overall logic and he has no fear. the truth is w/ the makeup the joker has it wouldnt be to difficult to recast the character. there's no reason to change the planned direction of the story...

of course this could all be pointless they could kill the joker at the end of this movie who knows.

if i were warner i'd give nolan whatever he wants, after what happened to batman the first go around i wouldnt let i proven director leave w/o a fight.

i know a lot of people disagree and what happened to ledger is tragic but i think the best way to honor him is to get an actor worthy and capable of continuing the joker and finishing the story.

thats kind of like what Tim Burton wanted to do. When Burton made his batmans, he was actually passionate about them. he REFUSED to ever add Robin because he felt batman was written to be a loner, angry with himself and his past, a very dark character.

But WB wanted to make alot of movies, with alot of characters, so they can make alot of toys, and alot of money. Which is why they canned Burton and got Shumacker, Who made 90 minute toy commercials for WB.

If the studios want more movies, they'll have them made, WB probably has george clooney on speed dial in case Bale drops out.

i think if anything, you would see 4 movies. maybe with an outlet for a 4th film (like with pirates 3 did)

I VOTE PENGUIN

danny devito's penguin was WAY OFF what the comic says. Hes not a freak from the sewer; hes just supposed to be a wealthy man, a gentleman, who dresses like the monopoly man, and has a bad nose-job. That is a character who fits in the nolan's batman universe. Phillip Seymour would nail that, but the character is supposed to be short. like 5'3" max

Riddler - Ralph Fiennes or Jacob Isaacs(they both have that sharp, intelligent, creepy look to em)

They would have to throw out the old suit of course, lol

I don't think Catwoman will do the movie anygood. That character was ruined when Catwoman came out.

+1 I would like to see Mr. Frreeze also. The one from the Cartoon. Not Batman and Robin version.

Most likely it'll be Two-Face

Recasting the Joker would be a mistake...you just shouldn't do it. Ledger unfortunately died and Nolan has to move on. You can still have an engaging movie without the Joker regardless of hos status. It is already bad enough they re-cast Rachel Dawes part, although it was for the better because Katie Holmes can't act worth shit.

That is because those movies were a disaster from their conception. Chris O'Donnell give me a friggin break...they should have put Rosie O'Donnell in that role and it wouldn't have mattered.

I agree...I do like Robin but him as Dick Grayson...unfortunately that was ruined for me in the other movie. It would be cool to see his conversion into Nightwing.

Has Bale ever said how many of these films he's willing to do?

I agree that Riddler would be a great to match wits with Batman.
