Sweeney Todd (Import) - Reviews and Reactions Thread

I don't think Warner have applied heavy duty DVNR on Sweeney Todd. It looks like the engineers have digitally airbrushed a portion of Depp's face (ACNE).

The movie size (not disc size) is 27 GB which means an AVBR in the 20~24 Mbps range after subtracting the space occupied by the soundtracks. IMO 20+ Mbps AVBR is respectable for a Warner title.

I enjoyed the movie and if they didn't have the songs in it, it would have been nearly perfect. I loved the dreary/depressing atmosphere and the moodiness but that would almost vanish (for me) when they started singing. Then they'd get everything setup perfectly again, I'd really be getting into the movie and they'd start singing again. Poof, there goes the moodiness they had just spent a while creating. By the mid-point, I was playing the singing parts at 1.5x so I could still hear the words but not completely lose the mood waiting for the song to finish.

PQ/SQ-wise, I thought it was pretty good. Also, the steelbook case arrived in good condition (no dents, scratches, etc.).

i don't think warner release HD DVD for sweeney todd, so it might not be encoded for HD DVD then transferred to BD. I loved the PQ and SQ, unlike Polar Express (which is complete rubbish)
