I don't know off hand any models, but brands off the top of my head that I would recommend a listen would be Monitor Audio, Paradigm, Energy, B&W, Axiom, PSB, NHT, AV123 - but there are many more great speakers companies. I believe all these I mentioned have models in the OPs price range, and think most would be better then Polk or Klipsch (though only in my opinion).

i'm the OP.

i know MONITOR and PARADIGM and B&W. I'll have to look into the others...i guess i have more homework to do

with a .04% THD...thats clean power.
RMS Output Power (20Hz - 20kHz)

not sure what i'm missing as far as specs.
Absolutely nothing, which is why I was recommending the Polk's as they are not as sensitive.

Complete typo.

The RX-V1800 is more than powerful enough for any of those speakers.

As for speakers, you seemed to have your mind made up, but if you're game for auditioning I would strongly recommend Aperion Audio, AV123 and Axiom Audio. With no middle man you're getting more speaker for the dollar and you get 30 days in home trial, where you listen to them where they're going to be installed taking your own sweet-ass time.

Yes they certainly do!
6 moons has a review up of them.

The M80 is, hands-down and in my experience, the best and most complete loudspeaker in its class! I refer to the ca. $1,000/pr full-range floorstanding loudspeaker class but I'll add that I've never heard a monitor in its price class that I'd rather listen to. In and around the $1,000 price class, I've only encountered one other speaker I could live with - the Ohm Micro, another factory-direct offer. That's no coincidence. Selling through the usual retail channels just doesn't allow the manufacturer the budget to build a speaker like the M80 and keep the price so low.
Not a statement to be taken likely when you look at the type of equipment 6 moons reviews on a regular basis.

Axiom would be an excellent choice, and much much better than anything Best Buy has to offer. Their speakers always review very well.

I just got a chance to audition these this past weekend.... great speakers. They really had a "soft" sound to them (hard to explain I guess, but very enjoyable)

Nice job! Did you order a pair to audition or borrow some?
They must have sounded real sweet hooked up to your gear.

+2 on that.

i happen to have customer that does home theater...he has taken down his shop to do it out of the house...typically he is on the high-end. i believe he can get whatever he wants but i should see what he typically stocks. i know my friend just spent 9k with him and he is only part way complete. receiver, projector (only 1080i/720p...his bad ) and speaker wire. he is working on his speaker selection too.
