lol - I saw it Jason, but thanks for enlarging the font size and putting it in bold for me, I appreciate it, - but question - did they review all the subwoofers on my list?

From what I've heard their speakers are very respectable as well. Internet brands tend to rule the high end in price/perf (they are much harder to beat with DIY, as they more or less are DIY, just someone else's DIY).

I think the only subs tested, were the ones listed.

yeah... but according to who??? It's all subjective.

I give the Bose "bass module" 1,254,892 points..... how's that? It's more points, so it must be better right????? Ultimately it all comes down to personal preference, so this "point system" is more or less meaningless.

Craigsub List is a pretty well respected list. All subs are tested with Meters and all the measured results are given, and measured results don't usually lie no matter who is reviewing them. Of course if you had clicked any of the supplied links you would have known that.

My point, is it's still SOUND, and sound is subjective for each person. Measure outputs are one thing, and they can objective..... but the sound itself is subjective.

This sub sounds AWESOME from the reviews. Does anyone know a way to get around the astronomical shipping charge? Yikes!! I'd grab this one if the S/H was free.

I don't think Craig's methodology is quite so arbitrary. The scores weren't based off his opinion alone, but involved several people's opinion put into a single score (a few designers, audiophiles, and himself). I know you were exaggerating, but it's more than just his opinion.

I would say anything that scores above an 85 or so on that list is going to be more power and quality that most people are used to -- most people get some sloppy bass and think it's great just because it's a lot of relatively low frequency noise (30-50hz, not even the good stuff).

You should look at 12" or 15" model subs to satisfy your bass needs. HSU and SVS produce excellent subs as well as other companys. However these should more than satisfy you. It's not that hard to make your own sub but it will likely cost more in the end. Placement, x-over cuttoff, phase and gain will help your sub perform its best. If it were I x-over cuttoff should be at 60hz not the ever so hyped up 80hz from THX waste of time. It's your sub move some air.

You would be surprised to learn you can have outstanding low end without spending $600 too. Some people would hate on these companies but they are pioneers in "loudspeakers" and most of those suposed high end companies follow in their footsteps and rip you off in the same time. However there are a lot of bad subs out there so a good quality company is important. Just don't fall for the hype and waste a ton of money on bass which is the easiest of all freq. to produce.

I used to be in love with car audio and SPL in the ealier 90's. Worked at a higher end install shop. won awards and been featured in magazines.Someone said car audio can't touch what you can do in your home. Well it's what started the whole reason for having a sub in your home so thank bass freaks, don't hate. Obviously they have never sat in a car where your voice sounded like a robot, felt like you are getting punched in the back, setting off other peoples car and house alarms and my favorite make the paint flake off your vehicle! At the cost of having your ears hurt for the rest of your life like mine do.

oh yeah your room is going to have a lot to do with the sound you are going to get.

I have a SVS PB10-NSD and it is awesome. Also, it is extremely large to the point of being comical.

The specs listed on the SVS's website are completely inaccurate size-wise because it doesn't count the case they put the subwoofer in.

It's come down to the Martin Logan Dynamo and the av123 MFW-15 - the SVS is a bit too large for my current room, and with that shipping price it becomes a bit overbearing. All depends on the deals I get, the Sound Advice fella was going to give me quite a discount on the little Dynamo, so that is my lean at the moment. According to some of the guys on this thread, I can't go wrong with it.

You should always be careful of advice from the person who is trying to sell you something though

Martin Logan makes quality stuff, so he wasn't necessarily leading you astray. I don't think you could go wrong with any of the recommendations in this thread. But the AV123 sub is probably a little better, but it'll obvious cost you a little more -- by the time you get either sub in your room and start listening, I don't think you'll care much (at least not for a while -- you may get an upgrade itch, but that could may happen regardless of what you buy!).

Enjoy the Dynamo

True. Thanks! Ironically enough I went it for a mindset to get a different sub, he quickly said, "Nuh-uh. Martin Logan for your sub. Nothing else."

Another round of thanks.

From the supplier in Canada, the S/H to Quebec is 60$, I think it's not that bad... How much is it in the US?

I second the av123 MFW15
And I think Craig's testing is probably about as dead on as you can get.

Especially seing how he basically got the same observations on the Epik Conquest as Tom Nousaine.

I'm a big fan of Def Tech subs. You can get the Supercube III for 699.99 with free shipping on Amazon. One of the nice things with these subs is that they are tiny. No giant boxes or cylinders here. It's about 10" square! Frequency response down to 16Hz! The Pro Sub 1000 is 499.99 and plays down to 18Hz. Also, free shipping on Amazon.

I have the Def Tech 14" Reference series I'll make someone a very fair deal on, if they want to set up a Trade + Cash deal...... you'd have to pick it up, and pay cash.... sorry, I just don't trust people! I'm in N.E. Ohio. It's perhaps 2 months old... I have the box and all paperwork.

Basically I don't think the Def Tech is filling my "needs" it's TOO MUCH sub for me.

If I had $600 for a sub, (or if I could go back in time) I'd get a ML dynamo.... but didn't the OP already pick up his sub? so Moot point perhaps?

I'll be a monkey's uncle if that Supercube III can hit 16Hz at any audible level (or without an insane amount of distortion for that matter!)

I have heard these subs and the Supercube I or the Supercube reference are good, powerful subs capable of playing as low as 16Hz but that Supercube III is very overpriced IMO.
