I guess you can't blame them, what with little kids giving them an enormous amount of money for The Avengers and such. It is a shame though.

while not a marvel studios property......Deadpool would benefit from an R rating.

Right now, Marvel have their chips on the Avengers franchise, for which it makes sense to not have an R rating. However, since they recently reacquired Daredevil and The Punisher, there's definitely the possibility of having later films being R rated.

So no Marvel movies of any Max series? No gay Rawhide kid movie? No adaptation of Alias? Now that one would have to be R rated if just for the Luke Cage and Jessica having sex in an extremely uncomfortable place. And I don't mean the backseat of a Volkswagen.

If they make a PG-13 Punisher i'll be pissed, I think they were mostly referring to The Avengers and the characters related to it though (the mainstream characters). Whatever happened to the Marvel Knights banner? They could put R-Rated (less mainstream) films under it.

You know, I don't think Marvel's made an R-rated movie since. Looks like they kept their word.

I can see new Blade and Punisher movies being neutured for financial gain, but being getting Uncut home releases to make up for it.

i've always said if marvel could keep the budget to $50 million or less.....an R rated movie for one of the characters shouldn't be that much of a gamble.

They've never said never. In fact, Feige even admitted that they would look into the idea of making smaller budgeted films around some of their darker characters, and would possibly go for an R rating if required. Especially now that they've reacquired DareDevil and Punisher, who knows what might happen. This was posted so long ago, before they studio had really gained any traction and had any idea what they were going to do. They can actually afford to do that now, and I'd love to see them take a chance on it. We'll just have to wait and see. I hope we eventually see the darker side of the Marvel universe, with Punisher and DareDevil in New York dealing with the gangster underbelly that we don't normally get to see in the Marvel films. It'll give a different light on the MCU as a whole. I can dream.
