The SD DVD was a mixed bag for PQ. I would hope the BD is better.

Blind buyers for the content beware! You may not like this movie and I advise renting it.

I agree with that. Thankfully I rented it first.

Another brief search of the web has yielded no results in terms of any screener reviews 5 days prior to release...

Again, I will update the first post if/when any materialize. For now, will continue to sit on these pointy pins and needles...

I think even people who loved DDL's performance may find this one collecting dust on the shelf. May not reward repeat viewing...just my $.02.

I agree. Great performance but re-watch value in minimal.

I personally cannot wait to see TWBB again and have held off buying the standard DVD waiting for the BD.

I'm in the same boat. This may very well be the best movie I've ever seen. PTA is now solidified as my favorite director and i've never EVER seen a performace as convincing, serious, and at time hilarious (intended?) as DDL delivered.

I rented this on DVD and I cannot wait to see this again but I told myself I'd wait for the BLU release. This should have won best picture hands down. I enjoyed NCFOM because it was a puzzle for me but this movie is an epic.

+1. just because the acting is good doesn't mean that the movie is good.

Alot of the people who are saying that this movie does not have high replay value have probably watched I'Robot 5 times.

Agreed. It is beyond me how anyone cannot appreciate a film like this. It has some amazing cinematography and one of the best acting performances of the past decade. Thirty years from now TWBB will still be viewed as an American classic.

Not only am I blind buying this movie, I don't even know what it's about. Not in the least bit. After reading this thread, I've decided that I will not read a review or summary of this movie. I love surprises!!!

I have been recently compiling my all time 100 favorite films, There Will Be Blood has already made it in my top 50 and may rank higher after I see it again.

I've seen the first 25 minutes of the movie and it reminded me of a Looney Toons cartoon. Well maybe thats taking it a bit far. I heard a guy say "no" before scaffolding hit him on the head and that was virtually the only word spoken in the time I watched. I think the movie is a tad over "artsy". Its different and yields a certain fan base but its definitely not for everyone.

Of course, i'm expecting the rest to be much more compelling. I have it on me right now. I'll give my full impression after watching it.

As you noted, the first 25 minutes really aren't indicative of the rest of the film. It's all intended to set-up the remainder of the film and act as a tool in the development of Plainview.
