You are better off buying a blu-ray player and picking up a stand alone VCR. You can get them all day for less than $50.

Several years ago standalone VHS, S-VHS, and D-VHS machines went out of production. In addition to that issue combination DVD/VHS machines are or soon will be going out of production. There is currently no combination VHS/Blu-ray player in production because of lack of demand. The Panasonic DMP-BD70V was released back in 2009 for a suggested retail price of $399.95, and it only plays standard VHS tapes, no recording function. The 2009 Panasonic DMP-BD70V review can be read at the following website:

http://www.bigpicturebigsound.com/Panasonic_DMP-BD70V_VHS_Blu-ray_Player.shtml

Since the Panasonic DMP-BD70V went out of production back in late 2009, it no longer can be found for $399.95, instead because of supply and demand issues, Amazon dealers that have new models are selling it for around $1,599.

Consumers would be better off purchasing a 2015 Panasonic Blu-ray player for $50+ and then purchasing a native used 1080i D-VHS machine on EBAY with HDMI output or some other used S-VHS, or VHS machine depending on the features they need or want.
