The power supplies on the 805 (and up) bench test very well unlike some other AVR's currently on the market. There is little to no power drop with all channels driven simultaneously. The 805 may not be quite as good as separates, but it is a fine receiver and power supply is one of its highlights.

That's good to hear (especially for all those 805 owners)

Really I think the main benefit of separates is the "cleanliness" of the sound..... You really can't find an AVR under $2,000 with the type of sound produced by entry-level tube-amps. it's not a matter "I need 200 Watts/channel" it's the sonic abilities of Separates that I seek.

That doesn't contradict what I posted earlier at all

Separate PSUs are one factor for 'clean' sound, certainly not the only one. But when you compare AVRs with tube amps we come right back to that oranges and apples salad

And my comment was a reaction to this claim:

Electricity causes magnetic fields which can distort signals. I.E. your listening to the radio and drive past a transformer which is emitting a magnetic field, it distorts the radio wave and causes static. Electronics in a receiver are not as well shielded as they are in dedicated amplifiers. This distortion may not be significant in some receivers, but it still exists.

True, it just seemed to me you were claiming that's the only cause of distortion and hence benefit to separates. Sorry if I misinterpreted your post.
