That would be unfortunate, it looks like a good movie (certainly more interesting than the normal formulaic super hero movie).

Fantasy Moguls says the tracking numbers on this film is sky high. I expect a huge $100 million opening over the 4th of July holiday weekend on its way to a $200 million take in the US.

The $7.50 movie cash comes with all editions of MIB, it's a yellow sticker on the slipcase that has a special code (on the back) to redeem for your e-Movie Cash that you print off. So go with the BB offer and get both.

Will Smith rarely disappoints. I will be checking out Hancock when it is released. Some of the scenes making the internet rounds look hilarious. I got my preview disc today with the purchase of "The Professionals." I don't think the clerks will care what you buy to get the disc. My local Best Buy had only 65 copies. By the way, Best Buy has really expanded its Blu-ray offerings. They're no Fry's Electronics but it is much improved. Thanks for the heads up OP.

Really? I ordered MIB from Family Video and it shipped out last week should get here any minute. I knew nothing about movie cash. If true... looks like I'll go to the movies. Haven't been to a "real" theater since Spiderman 3. -Brian p.s. Wish I had checked on Ebay before about those spiderman promos. My Best Buy let me take as many as I wanted so I replaced all my damaged Blu Ray cases with them and then gave the discs away to people that looked like they didn't really want them. |

I just came from Best Buy and can give the lowdown on these BD promo discs. You do not need to buy a Blu-ray for the cash register to ring these up. I bought a pack of dvd-rs with two of the promos. The promos ring up for $.01 a piece. The store I went to had at least 80 copies of it. I doubt many cashiers will even know the terms of this promotion.
The promos are from Sony Pictures promoting Hancock on a single BD25. Sony went full out on the packaging. A true embossed Blu-ray case that can be re-used if necessary. They included the standard Sony BD promo booklet. Strangely they also included the sticky security sticker on top and a sensormatic strip on the inside. The disc's content itself is a little disappointing. Here are the entire contents: Hancock Sneak Peek- a four minute segment encoded in high bitrate AVC. Visually the picture quality looks very similar to the "I Am Legend" Blu-ray. Detail looks somewhat weak for an action blockbuster. Hancock teaser trailer- the two minute trailer we've all seen before. It's encoded in low bitrate MPEG-2 but strangely looks sharper and more defined shot for shot than the Sneak Peek segment. It looks like much of the same material but possibly comes from a better source. Lots of compression artifacting though, unlike the other Hancock segment in AVC. BD-Java preview of interactive game from Men In Black - This little "game" runs about four minutes and I guess is supposed to make you run out and buy Men In Black on BD. I was not impressed that much. Trailers - All the following are encoded in MPEG-2 and only have 640 kbps Dolby Digital tracks for audio. Virtually every single one of the actual Blu-rays I own of these movies looks better than the quality presented here. Do not judge the actual releases' picture quality based on these trailers... Sony Blu-ray Promo Men In Black 21 Persepolis Spider-Man 3 Ghost Rider Close Encounters of the Third Kind The Pursuit Of Happyness Hitch Casino Royale Vantage Point First Sunday Damages - Season 1 |

I seen the promo on TV last night for this movie. Maybe it's just me, but it looks like another flaming bag of crap from Will Smith. I'm sure it will clean up at the box office in the 1st few days, till word get around. Ever notice how you don't see any bad reviews for big pictures like this until after the 2nd week of running. I think the studios have a deal with the top movie reviewers to keep their mouth shut for a week or two.

I would keep the preview disc as an exta blu case to replace a damaged one but thats all I could see it being any use, not really a Will Smith fan, and the people who bought the Spiderman sneak preview for $20 on ebay are the definition of n00bs

Best Buy just sent me tickets to the sneak preview of hancock (no purchase required.. just "silver reward zone" status. for last monday.
I will now never go to the movies again. While the movie was good, the picture and sound at the theater cannot compare to my home theater. Plus what with the theaters not selling snocaps anymore?? (the last 3 movies i went to all different theaters... all different brand of theater! no snocaps!!) I will just buy my movies from now on. the preview disc looked good on my screen. I will be buying the bluray when it comes out. |

I think this puts it 3rd overall, for biggest July 4th weekend box office grosses, behind Spider-man 2 (something like $85 million) and Transformers (something like $67 million). The interesting thing about Transformers is that it opened on a Tuesday, and still had enough draw power to make $67M on Fri/Sat/Sun. Depending on the source, some sites had Wall-E making $63 million last weekend, which is crazy. |
