I have on the ground intel from Singapore.

360:

launches globally, arrives in SG many months later (as is expected), CORE version is given away free with 2 year internet subscriptions and premum version available all over.

after free CORE promotion ends (after ages), CORE available discounted 100 SGD below actual price for a while, then back to full price. 360s can be found everywhere as of now.

PS3:

launches in japan on a friday (i think).

available as import unit in SG with significant mark-up on saturday evening (i kid you not). not yet arrived in SG officially but selling like hotcakes everywhere as of today.

Got so popular that the govt actually issued a statement advising people that import units come with no warranty and to be careful about voltage requirements. again, i am not kidding

Finally, demand is high enough right now that retailers are actually selling packages (+ 3 games etc.) and refuse to sell just the console.

------------------------

In SG, PS3 seems to have annihilated the 360. I like NFS and GoW on the 360 (I have a free CORE ) but IMO, the PS3 is a different quality of animal altogether..

I aggree with yo totally and if there is still a single person in the world thinks that PS3 is not selling ,they have to conclude that this person is abnormal. As it is happening in SG about import PS3 are selling like hotcakes, you should have a look in middle east region where we have too region imported PS3 and they are sold like hotcakes including me which i bought one.

Congratulations to All and to all Blu-ray fans,Blu-ray is here to win and it is going to win at the end in favour of PS3 .

Yup, I agree.

But aren't the units (or at least majority) of those import PS3s all come from Hong Kong right? And if I remember ASEAN is 220V. So maybe voltage isn't a problem (expect if you use a US or Japan 110V unit).

Anyhow, I expect our Asian launch (for ASEAN + Korea) to be somewhere around April-June (perfectly within H1 period).

So for people like WriteSimply (from Malaysia) and myself (from RP), I think we're in for a blast real soon.

If that happens, then Blu-ray wins the region.

Remember the CNET Asia article, it said that HD-E1 player will arrive in July while the premium HD-E10 player will arrive in December (too damn far). If the PS3 launches with April-June, HD-DVD won't even stand a chance.

Yup, the HK ones are just fine but the Japanese ones are the ones that were concerning the govt. Its a good thing no one burned his house down due to overlooking basic voltage issues. Can you imagine how that would have been spun against the PS3 and Sony?

IMO, Sg will definitely follow Japan in its BD-preference. PS3 is going to be a wonderfully effective trojan horse here.

The samsung is selling for ~1000 USD now. The Toshiba is nowhere to be found. Movies are available for both at HMV at ridiculous prices.

From my understanding, it seems that all PS3s are dual-voltage. This was reported after a few people took it apart and saw what the voltage regulator had printed on the side.

Over here, it's not that hard to find it but to justify the significant mark-up bundle is just daft. Since the worldwide launch is going to happen in March anyway, I'd rather get it then or get the US version. Meanwhile, I'd stock up on BD movies.

Question

hi Write,

Are BD movies available in KL or are you amazon-ing them over?

The ones in HMV here are priced like they use platinum for the bloody disc surface

cheers

There is one store but he imports from the US and uses MSRP instead of say Amazon.com price he got it from.

I've bought from a few different US sites. Have to be a smart shopper, you know?

You're right about that.

http://www.samsung.com/sg/products/b...r/bd_p1000.asp

Exactly one month after the Hong Kong launch.

But after I saw the spec chart, it said 120V 60hz.

Huh?!?!?!? While the HK version is 220v @50hz.

Screw it. I'm not gonna buy a transformer/power converter. I only buy autovolt products.

Do you have any links?

I wanna see this for myself. If what you say is true, then the Sony PS3 only Blu-ray device atm that is AUTOVOLT (AC 100-240V 50/60hz). And everyone knows that AUTOVOLT IS KING (stares at MS and Nintendo for not doing this in their consoles).

Don't have links. Try looking for sites that offer full PS3 dissection pix.

Also a European user on here verified that his US PS3 plays fine plugged in directly to a power source.

It could be that SCE may change from Autovolt to Voltage specific units in later units. But that's backwards thinking in my mind since PS3 games are region free. Autovolt makes PS3s almost region free for electricity at least.

I hope you're being sarcastic, otherwise that's one hell of a mood swing from the 21st to now.

Gotta give love to the SNES for all time greatness, though.

I hope so. If not, there's a serious 180 degree emotion change that happened since January 21.
