Caught this a few months ago on a DVD screener and its a fun show. I've heard that JJ won't be abandoning it like he did with Lost and Alias. Rumor is that he is kind of upset that you have to backtrack in Lost and Alias and can't just jump into an episode.

Default Initial Impression!

Chris Carter must be thinking, "J.J. - stick with LOST". For a show that deals witht he paranormal FRINGE was an uninspired effort with unengaging dialogue or charactres. The idea itself was decent but the delivery from the script to the characters themself was awful. I honestly felt cheated. I hold Sci-Fi shows to a different standard when it comes to dealing with subjects that fascinate us. Sure there is no "scientific" proof of the paranormal but where FRINGE fails is it tries to be like the X-FILES in that, they want you "to believe". through out the show I was rolling my eyes at the poor attempts to "coo" the audience with nonsense. {THE I CAN SEE YOUR DREAMS SEQUENCE WAS VERY B MOVIE LIKE}. Chris CARTER on the other hand allowed his audience for years to use their imagination. This is why the XFILES ran for 9 YEARS. J.J. Abrams dosen't know how to do this, not on this scale. Not yet anyway. The chemistry of the characters also felt "off". I give this episode a C-. Will I watch it again? Yes, because there is potential. But like Invasion, I think this one will down as yet another failed SCI-FI show that failed to capture the hearts and minds of SCI-FI fans.

Well that's a pretty expensive B-movie look considering the pilot alone cost 10mil.

I thought the show was fantastic. I actually liked it as much if not more than when I fisrt saw X-Files. By the way, X-Files ran for 9 seasons but it suffered badly for the last couple of seasons and they never wrapped anything up. We all got cheated in the end.

I think it's too soon to say off of a pilot. But what I can say is Anna Torv was great! Not sure about the rest of the cast. Joshua Jackson still looks like a boy despite the semi-beard.

i thought it was really good as well. i liked the choice of john noble as sort of the mad scientist role. he was good as denethor in return of the king. i think it will be interesting to see what they do with it.

This take is spot-on, from my perspective.

I missed out on all of the hype and didn't know a dang thing about this show, except that it was a J.J. Abrams project.

Quickly realized that it was The X-Files. Quickly realized it was not nearly as good. The acting was wooden, the direction and writing pretty shaky. I always wished that The X-Files was produced during the HD era, so a show like this done well would be tons of fun.

I hope it gets better and I'll definitely tune in, but it's got a long uphill climb from that pilot.

Exactly. There were a whole bunch of things that were never addressed or finished, they just kind of forgot about them. Fans of Lost, me included were worried about them doing the same thing that X-Files did. The producers and writers have stressed to us that they will not do that. Hopefully Fringe will do the same. There's nothing worse than being left hanging after you've invested time in watching a show like these.

Thank You. Please bare in mind I have not given up on the show, not at all. My expectations were different thats all. Someone pointed out in the other forums that directors/writers treat us {viewers}, like were idiots and can't figure anything out.

If it wasn't for Anna Torv, I am not sure I would give the show a chance. I don't think this pilot was as entertaining as the X-Files pilot.

Fringe has a lot of possibilities, and I will stick with it for now.

So far I also say its too soon to start judging the show. These are fairly new actors and they definitely have potential. The story wasn't bad and it overall suprised me how "big budgeted" it looked. Picture quality was by far amazing, that was the first thing that struck me. It's definitely a show I'll stay interested in for a while. It could start off alot like lost. In my opinion, lost's first episode wasnt the best, but it got a LOT better from there.

This show needs Nick Cage as a rogue cop and it would be the best show ever.
