Don't forget that the dearth of HD DVD releases is also playing into this.

It is a combination of BD success and HD DVD failure.

Absolutely. But, the big question is: Why is HD DVD failing to release titles?

Warner - Wants to catchup and do day and date between the formats.
Paramount - Rather slow right now for both
Universal - What the heck happened?!

It's hard not to think that the of 2006 was the end of some lucrative agreement that didn't get renewed until last week, way too late for the flow to be started for several months.

Anyway. It's time for Universal to stop the games, and end the war. They'll be the one remembered now for dragging this on.

That is the big question. If you take the viewpoint that what most "3rd parties" want is one format, then you may begin to get some answers.

Quite simply, WB understands what was/is going on...before, and even more now. They are bullish on spearheading the transition to HD Optical. They went neutral, and that was a huge blow to HD DVD. Why? Quite simply, you don't sh*t where you eat, and they understood most of the industry was with BD...that they may need to "eat" there for the next 10 years.

I'm only 75% sure, but I believe this TotalHD thing they are pitching is nothing more than forcing everyone to put their cards down at the table. They will produce it if need be, but I'm not sure they really expect/want to. Like I said, I'm not 100% sure yet...but WBs actions lately have been VERY interesting.

They are the LEAST bullish on either of these formats. They are a follower and not a leader. They are of no consequence to the format war, unless they were to stray from neutral and support one format only going forward. And given the topic/information of this thread, you know they aren't going HD DVD only. I'm not saying they are about to go BD only, I'm just saying that it would be the only logical move of consequence from this studio.

I'm not going to comment on any sort of agreement, as I have no proof. I will say that I do highly doubt that if there was such an agreement that it has been renewed. Quite simply, they were "forced" to make an announcement after the CES debacle, an announcement which reaffirms they'll be releasing on HD DVD in 2007. The timing of the HDDVD promotion groups "Spielberg listing" is HIGHLY suspect, especially given what we've learned today. At what point, given Universal's actions lately, does an HD DVD fanboy/supporter ask himself, "What the heck is going on? The timing of all of this Universal 'news' doesn't make any sense. Who's really pulling the strings here, and why are they pulling Universal around with them?"

Think about it, Universal does nothing at CES (an HD DVD org strategy according to Amir), then does an official press release (where are Warners and Paramounts HD DVD press releases?...especially if a conscious effort was made by the HD DVD org not to focus on title annoucements at CES...according to Amir). Then 3 days after an official PR (and conversation with Home Theater Forum) Universal Spielberg titles mysteriously show up with no release date...NOT AS PART OF AN OFFICIAL Universal release. If Universal were that bullish and wanted to show strong support (and knew of the pending additions to the HD DVD Promotions list), wouldn't last week's press release (just three business days ago!!!) have been the time to do this? What does that say for what Universal is thinking? Who's pulling the strings here? Universal, as the only HD DVD major studio exclusive is getting jerked around to show "strong support" for HD DVD.

I think Universal went in with their best foot forward and with good intentions. They see which way the wind is blowing, but there are other powers are work here, it is a delicate situation, and they know what is at stake. I don't think they are playing "games", though they may be remembered for dragging this thing on. That's all I am going to say.

I just wanted to pop in to say that watching hmurchison pull his Morpheus routine and quoting Churchill is awesome. I'm almost tempted to post there. And why hasn't anyone called him on his BS by mentioning the fact that he's a Toshiba dealer? That'll get his dander up.

No these numbers mean nothing!! According to an avs poster, what matters more is that there are more people in the hd-dvd sw and hw forums on avs than the bd forums. This is awesome.

That's a good one...but I think I got one better. Some guys on AVS are trying to say that the ONLY reason the sales are in favor of BD is because there's no new titles to buy on HD DVD. Now THERE'S something to be happy about if you're an HD DVD fan. That's great logic. "You're not winning, we just have nothing to buy." HAHAHAHAHAHA. Whatever makes them feel better I guess...

It is indeed some awesomeness going on at AVS. Kosty is trying so hard to make it look like its a fluke, but thats one heck of a fluke for blu-ray to sell as many discs that hd-dvd took 9 months to do in less then 2 months. I have no doubt now that the most avid HD-DVD supports are in fact insiders who are just trying to drum up support.

I also saw a post by one zealot saying "give hd-dvd more studios and a game console with it built in, blu-ray would be 6-feet under by now!". LOL. Thats why people are buying blu-ray, BECAUSE it has those things. Freakin retards.

He means "if we were more like Blu-ray!"

He forgot "and if the HD DVD discs were 25GB per layer..."

Nevermind, I figured it out LOL. I can't post the picture there yet, 'cuz I need at least 5 posts to avoid 'SPAMMING' them!

EDIT: OK now I got my 5 posts there... check out page 5 (five) of the link below:

Wow, I never look at stuff on that site but its clear to me that some of those guys just don't have a clue. People siting reasons of sheer hatred at Sony when its a whole bunch of companies that make up the BDA, as to why they will never support Blu Ray.

I kinda agree.

I would want to see the reactions of those same people once we reach Q2 (April-June).

And now the latest talking points, courtesy of plazman:

Of course. Why would TDB ignore unconfirmed information from France when they have actual sales numbers to report? The mind boggles.

Overall, I also find it some what suspicious that HMR would post both this and and article about why BD will win in the same issue. So, given that this info is free and HMR is probably paying Neilson, the question I have is who is paying HMR? This is a very relevant question. IMHO.
Yes, Neilsen is now being paid off. Of course, Grubert smacks him down immediately:

Whoops! And now it looks as if plazman's signature, which read something like "Ignore the fanboys, watch the truth" is no longer there.

Add in the fact that Digital Bits is a... wait for it...

North American Resource Site.

If they're going to claim that since HD DVD is region free they should cover worldwide releases, the same applies to the BD side in that they should be covering the Japanese market much more.

You mean like their format?

That's the way it's been for most of these fools: Lots of @#$% talking, lies, smoke and mirrors, and little to no results.

Now you have sheer desperation kicking in, on top of everything else.

I have no pity for any of them.
