I love my Samsung 52A650! Its a matter of your own taste, but everyone seems to fall in love with it when they come watch movies.

Hey Maul, does that mean your model doesn't suffer with that blurring and diagonal "shearing/tearing" effect on 1080P - are you using your PS3 for Blu-ray and what settings are you using in the Samsung TV menu options? Movie Mode? DNIe? Game Mode? MoviePlus?

Perhaps the PS3 doesn't suffer from the same problems that the Xbox 360, PC and Samsung £200 Blu-Ray player suffers with when moving 1080P images around a big screen at speed.

Be interested to hear if anyone else has any thoughts on this.

I've got to throw my hat in here and say the 52A650 from Sammy is everything I'd hoped it would be and more... I've been nothing but thrilled with this TV. As far as I'm concerned it's the best LCD around... I looked at a lot of different places and compared pictures, messed with features, etc.

I was leaning towards plasma for the longest time, but the Panny 800u just kept getting delayed, and my room is way too bright for one anyway, so I went on a mission to find the best LCD I could... once I got my 52A650 home and hooked it up and it looked even better than it did in the store, I was sold. The thing's a beast, and at just over 2k, I think it's a heck of a deal.

I initially purchased a 46" Sony KDL46W4100. The picture quality was very nice, but I ended up exchanging it for a Samsung LN46a750 (same PQ as the 650, but with a little more extra features) for various reasons.

A) My Sony set was suffering from the dreaded white sparkle issue--however this shouldn't really be of any concern to you anymore because Sony just released a firmware update fixing this.
B) The Samsung had slightly better blacks and my screen was much more uniform--the Sony had a lot more clouding and flashlighting for tastes.

Overall, I'm very satisfied with the Samsung. The PQ is excellent, and I don't regret exchanging it. Sammys usually have brighter colors whereas Sony's are more crisp, but I'm happy with my choice. Also the 120hz motion enhancing technology looks a little different on both. I noticed more obvious artifacts with the Sony's motionenhancer on high as opposed to the Samsung's motion flow on high. The Sony seemed to pop just a little more, but I think overall, the Samsung is a much better set this go 'round. Plus, you'd save yourself some money.

Unless you spend hours in a store and take all your AV gear! So if this helps someone decide if LCD is for them then great. My model is about a year old, so things might have improved.

Generally after owning the TV, after 6 months after the initial wow "I can see hairs on people's arms" and "particles" of snow factor has gone, the reality sinks in. I've decided that yes it was a vast improvement over the old CRT, but generally the LCD TV technology at the momennt is a compomise in terms of quality. The serious problem with LCD is horizontal movement "blurring" which nobody ever seems to discuss on forums. I've even seen the same thing at my local "high-def" digital cinema - which obviously use LCD technology for projection - most notably when watching shows featuring handheld camera shots, e.g. Cloverfield.

Having splashed out a lot of money, its going to be a long time before I can justify upgrading, and unless I see vast improvements with LCD technology with my own eyes first, I'm not going to buy anything like it again.

Hopefully the later Samsung model is better! - Can anyone comment who has one? Perhaps later DVD players as source will be better and improve it.

I'm at a loss on this one.
Great post and I agree with you about LCD having experienced that myself before I got into plasma.

If you're a Samsung fan you might want to check out the pricing on the 58A650 plasma. It's going at a good price right now competitive with Panasonic and is a gorgeous looking display that's more than bright enough for all but the most sunny greenhouses.
