i don't think he was really defending monster, he is just in disbelief that there could be no real benefit to monster despite the outrageous prices.

How do you intend on "testing" it?

What position do you have with Circuit City, if you don't mind?

It doesn't seem to me a floor sales person would have such loyalty demonstrated by your avatar and nickname. You sound like someone in the marketing dept.

Do you have a linked in account?

I think he's just looking for trouble... Maybe he doesn't even work at circuit city...

I don't see why anybody would use "circuitcity" for a nickname.

A 30k Lancer Evolution can keep up with a 200k+ Lamborghini around a track. Sure, the Lamborghini looks better. But if performance is paramount . . . why waste the extra cash?
For the same reason you dont strap a rocket to your butt, performance is not everything. Oh and BTW, did you notice that the Lam you refer to was retested later by the same people, and it easily outscored the Lancer? Just thought you might like to know.

Anyway, as someone who depends on data cables all day every day I know for a fact that 1's and 0's either work or don't is a fallacy. So although I am not about to spend three digits on a HDMI cable, I am equally not about to get the cheapest thing on the market either.

Monster cables are just as good as a coat hanger. They're just way overpriced.

Odds are, Monster and Monoprice (as well as other) cables are probably made in the same Chinese factory so there really shouldn't be any differences.

There are several elements that make a difference.

1) Monster cables will handle plugging in and out better.
2) Monster are made with high grade materials, no short cuts.
3) Monster certify the cables are tested under the most extreme conditions.

Depends if you keep the cable plugged in, if you want fine metals and fibre optic technology that costs a bomb and you have the setup which demands the most out of a cable.

Approx 88% of people here will not need all that.

I just spent £45 for 2 x 2 metre cable in the UK. But that doesn't mean I had to, I just did because I feel its quality.

they are limited. we were at BB and we needed an hdmi cable, (this is before i knew about them) and the salesmen was trying to sell us the top of the line Monster cable ($130!) so we instead got the cheaper Monster cable which was like $70 bucks. I went home plugged it in, and I will tell you it had a crappy quality to it. So YES they are deliberatly limited.

We took it back and bought one from monoprice (which arent limited) for like $12. Picture quality=perfect

I will say Monster does make high quality cables and they stand behind their products. The main problem with Monster is the insane markup they sell at in retail stores. It would be like Honda pricing their Accords at Mercedes pricing. Monster pricing is out of step with the actual cost of the product and why they are so derided in online forums. Much of the high end cable business is built upon ignorance. Monster is the most visible as every big box retail store pushes them as accessories.
