I’m wondering though – I only tip if someone is waiting on me. I have been in coffee shops where there is a tip jar at the register. To me, the person pouring my coffee is simply doing their job, and does not deserve a tip. It would be like tipping the kid at the register at MacDonalds. Likewise to someone who rang me up for my take out order – they simply retrieved my food, they didn’t wait on me. And what about bartenders? Aren’t they just doing their job?

depends for what. You are going out to use THEIR service because if everyone could do it , they would just stay home and do it. when the bartender makes you a really good mixed drink , shot or generally very nice with you i usually give a good amount but usually always 1$ / drink Minimum but usually 2, 3 for drinks.

I always tip for decent service, starting at about 15%. Good service usually gets 20%, excellent to great sevice sometimes gets 25% or more. Sucky service gets less than 10%, zero if it is absolutely horrible.

i have never liked the concept of tipping. i think people should tip their garbage collector as he or she is far more essential in living. i question customs if they are illogical
