Pioneer Elite BDP-09FD Profile 2.0 Blu-ray player leaks out

Pioneer's last batch of Blu-ray players wasn't exactly earth-shattering, but if you're in the market for the highest of the high-end, it sounds like the upcoming Elite BDP-09FD might be worth waiting for. The first Pioneer unit to support Profile 2.0 and BD-Live, you'll also be getting 4GB of internal storage, eight independent D/A converters for each 7.1 channel (which means there are tons of receiver-caliber adjustments possible from the player), and 16-bit color output over two HDMI jacks. Should be out soon, for a whopping $2200.

Apparently, this is the scaling engine.

Don't care about 2.0, but the rest sounds pretty terrific.

Yep, you won't get DACs like those in a $500 player.

I suppose the strategy for those keen on the player would be to use a bare-bones all-analogue preamp and amp and save a few hundred that way (as against a high-end receiver).

Those with the disposable income, knock yourselves out. If we want BD to take off, we need $200 player announcements.

This is true. The Pioneer is for a different type of consumer thought. Nice to see more blu-ray players introduced for Q4. The more the merrier.

I dont know why ps3 owners(im one by the way) are getting upset and defending the ps3 overe this(over in the news section)
the fact that pioneer is even calling out the ps3 and saying thers is the best proves what we've been saying all along.......ps3 is the best blu-ray player and its the one to beat.(and IMO its still the one to beat as its still cheap with alot of features)
but the bottom line is we should be happy blu-ray is continuing to advance as a format with new technology, not get upset.

Your right and also its ratio of cost to performance will still far exceed the Pioneer player..

Was that really necessary?

That may well be true, but there's still a market for higher-priced (yes, even very highly-priced) players built for owners who choose to pay for the last word in PQ, AQ and features.

You my friend just made one of the best statements in this thread. PS3 owners don't get upset - just be happy with the BD format advancement.

Proof of load times... NADA show it to load them as fast if not faster than the $399.99 new 80 PS3. they can eat my shorts.

Not quite $200 yet, but according to http://www.hdguru.com/ Sony's getting ready to drop the S350 to $300. Can a drop on the Funai players be far off?

Oh and Circuit City has the BD30 for $339 in cart.

Actually learned this from HDD, who'd of thought?

Don't know the veracity of the site, so I'm on a wait and see for now.

This is very true. I got my Blu Ray player in July after having wanted one forever because it finally dropped to around 320. The new player sounds very nice, but I can't ever justify spending that much money on a blu ray player. And the thing is 50 lbs!?

Pioneer cannot defeat Sony. So if this is their attempt, good luck, but my stock is in SNE. $2200 for just a player? How much greater can this be than the PS3?

Pioneer is not trying to defeat sony they are just makeing a high end player for people who want and can afford the best player. News Flash not everybody wants a PS3 as there BD player there ARE people who prefer a standalone.

I know, but the way they're talking about their new player, it specifically sounds like they're trying to beat out the PS3, not other standalone players.

That must be me - the guy that doesn't want to replace a Mcintosh tube pre-amp and amps with an Onkyo. What the hell was I thinking? Silly me for funding the technology that eventually makes it into the mainstream.

ah i was asking in the News topic, but with their "pissing" match going on i doubt it would get noticed

i was hoping to find out that this thing played AVIs and allowed for Recording, if it did that would be great to get rid of all the standalones (if only it played ps3 games too hehe)
