Thats how my gamestop is. They have the new/sealed games behind the counter in a glass case.

When you buy a game its new/sealed. Not opened.

Guys I hear all of you, but I have been buying from Software Etc. and now Gamestop for over 14 years. I just started shopping Movie Stop in the last 6 months. I have never received a new item from them opened. Every game and movie is sealed when I buy the item. I guess because I do not buy any movies from them that are not preorder deals I have not had to experience the problems you are all having. When you get a brand new movie from a preorder it will always be sealed. My next one is Iron Man. The turn in four used DVD's for a 50% preorder BD is still a pretty good deal. I also preordered The Incredible Hulk and Hellboy II.

That's a horrible policy. They are keeping you from taking your BD's virginity. I would never buy from a store like that. I stick with Target and Best Buy.

Which is awesome, I guess- but what happens when you don't preorder? Guess what- it's going to be opened if they don't have a copy behind the counter.

Besides, outside of the 4 dvd deal- their prices are pretty high for new flicks.

its not considered as used if no one has played that disc but we put them out on the shelves open so that people can see what we have in stock and to prevent theft at the same time since a lot of people would just walk off with them if the disc was inside unopened

You work at MovieStop? I once traded in a "NEW" Unopened DVD and guess what? They opened it and gave me credit as if it were used (Which is fine with me because I had no receipt so how could they know?)! So why should I pay "NEW" price if they open it? Seems kinda dumb to me!

well work for Gamestop but almost same thing and same company but with dvds and blu-rays are computers dont actually say something like trade in of a new dvd or blu-ray it goes to as used automatically because for 1 we cant tell if you shrinkwrapped it yourself and its just policy from our company. with gamestop we are trying to abandon dvds and blu-rays(already abandoned Hd-dvd) so if you find a Gamestop that actually has a dvd or a blu-ray that actually says new you get it for bargain priced like most of the dvds that say new sell for life $3 now but with Moviestop however they just use the same method but in their own way and display a case on the shelves so that when you are shopping in the store you can say oh hey look they have this movie because if it was kept inside our cabinets people wouldnt even know we had it in stock because about maybe 60% of the customers dont even ask for what they want to get(or at least thats what ive noticed) but its not like anyone took it home and played it and brought it back in to sell as new and we dont leave our fingerprints behind or anything like that so its still technically new if there isnt a scratch, never been played before, and no fingerprints but trade ins go as trade-ins unless you bought it new and still have the shrink wrap around it or i dont know if moviestop does this but we put a little sticker on the side of the case to know that its new and if you break the sticker it becomes yours

So, if we open it, we buy it, but it's ok for Gamestop and Moviestop to have a policy whereas they can open it and then still sell it at full retail? Nice. What happens when someone goes to return that game as "unopened/new" with a receipt? Say, someone bought it as a gift and they wanted to return it?

Also, let me know if you can walk into any other store and open up media and then return it as new/sealed. It's bogus, and regardless of why they do it it's no longer new. It's unethical, and it's yet another way that Game/Moviestop hold themselves over the customer.

I agree with you there prices are usually pretty high. They will price match any of the retail stores. I will stick with Amazon and occasional deals at Best Buy, CC, Target, and K-Mart.

I think the main fact that all of you are missing is that most people go to these stores for USED games and movies, since you can buy new games and movies anywhere, and its not like gamestop or moviestop are providing better prices or anything...

I had the same situation happen to me at Gamestop back in 1999. I told the acne faced manager that I wanted a sealed game. He gives me the empty case and puts the disc in from behind the counter. I told him I wanted a new one. He said it was. LOL. I walked away and never shopped there since. If they open an item, it should be sold as used. I don't want anyone's monkey paws on my discs. I want to be the first (and only) one to handle them.

I think the fact that you are missing is that this is not what the OP or this topic is about at all.

Well, the fact is, go to another store then if you have a problem with them. I for one would just buy used since its cheaper and blu disks dont scratch easily at all..

that's really not the point! New is "still wrapped/never opened"! Not "New, but opened"!

What sense does that make? Really??

What planet are you living on chief?

If I were to buy a new blu-ray, take the disc out of the case, NEVER play it, and then try to return it, they would only accept it back as "USED". Should the consumer expect any less from them? What a ridiculous double standard and sham of an operation they are running.

hahah i think your a little over enthusiastic about the whole thing. Thats just their policy, and besides, how would you know the difference if they just went in the back and shrink wrapped it and sold it as new? if you dont like their policy on those few cases that have been opened, then just dont go there for new movies. Are all of their new movies done like this? or just a few that are on display?

One issue is the risk of damage - at Moviestop, they force the disc back into the package while the security stickers are still in place. It puts extra stress on the plastic lock tabs and case, and the risk of scratching the disc, even a BD, goes up.

Thats how they do it? ok maybe its strange then. I thought that maybe they sold their display disks as new if they are sold out of copies, but if they do this with them all, then thats weird.

My MovieStop has the shrink wrap machine right there behind the counter. When I buy a "new" disc from them, they put the disc in the case and then shrink wrap it right in front of you! I told the kid not to bother.

One thing they do offer that makes them better than Best Buy (how can anything be better than Best?) is a 10% Military Discount and they are at or lower prices than Best Buy to begin with.

My advice: Buy used from Movie Stop - maybe it's actually "new".
