I used to be a big fan of Jerry but he really does suck lately. He should have never buried all his material.

I don't know if they were commercials or little shorts he put out a while back for nbc but they sucked hard.

Well, both ads effectively demonstrate the image of their company--

The Apple ads reflect the Steve Jobs image of people who actually use computers every day, reduce computer needs to simple every day terms, and know what doesn't work in everyone else's non-intuitive Windows systems...

While the MS ads reflect the corporate image of "Uh, if we spend $300M we had lying around, to buy something/someone that we've heard you all like, will you love us now?...Look, here's Seinfeld, you used to like his show! " )

(...Ya just can't get more Microsoft than that. )

The first one was kind of strange when I first watched it, but the second one had my laughing out loud.

I dunno why all the hatred over these, they're pretty creative and so what if they spent $300. They don't have to claw and sucker punch the opposition.

Yes, they do:
You've just walked into our living room, guys, and interrupted our favorite show, and on HDTV at that...
Don't try to buddy up to us. Don't try to make us think we're your buddies. Don't try to sell us what you think was "better" entertainment than what we were watching when you walked in.
You've got thirty seconds to sell us something, or get out.

Getting people's attention would be good.

I just watched the first one again 2 hours ago, and I just now woke up from the coma.

I think the ads themselves are kind of funny...worth a chuckle anyway. However I don't think they do anything to change my mind about how I feel about Microsoft. It's like...yep, that was humorous...still don't like Microsoft.

I hate Microsoft, I really like these new commercials mainly due to Jerry. I loved Seinfeld.

"Hi, I'm a Mac."
"And I'm a PC."
"Say, what're you packing up there, PC?"
"Oh, it was going to be this commercial thing, and I was gonna look really cool..<adjusts tie> Y'know, we got SEINFELD for it? <frames hands> 'The system about Nothing'!"
"Didn't work out, huh?"
"Well, people acted like they just didn't know what I was talking about--They just wanted to ask about the computer, or something."
"Sounds like a good idea...Why didn't you just tell them about the computer?"
"<huh!> Excuse me? "
"I mean, say something good about Vista, or your laptop sales, or..."
"'Laptops'...'Something good about Vista'...You're new at this, aren't you?"
"Sorry, man, I was just--"
"No, no, y'see, we're Microsoft, so we have to crush you with our cultural influence and our MONEY--Hey, c'mon, could you afford Seinfeld? Look, we lost more money than you could ever spend, bucko."
"Guess you got a point, mean, I'm just here talking about the Macs."
"And buy a PC!...Not that there's anything wrong with us! "
"Y'know, that just doesn't sound right."

I think the Mac ads, for the most part, have been good (really funny) but they seem to be going downhill (seems like they're running out of clever ideas).

The first MS ad, I didn't realize it was an MS ad but I thought Jerry Seinfeld and Bill Gates meshed pretty well. I was kind of surprised. The 2nd one I saw I thought was better and I at least realized it was an MS ad. I like Jerry Seinfeld so I'm interested to see how it goes. I was really surprised to see Bill Gates doing that sort of the commercial though but I think it's good for MS.

Agreed. The one I was was pathetic and pointless.

I dont agree.

Microsoft is suffering from a HUGE image problem. Not a product problem. Apple is the "people's" company, while Microsoft is the faceless corporation headed by a guy who no one likes.

For a couple decades now, Microsoft has been that "evil" company that people tolerate because there was no other company that could build a competative product. Then Apple comes in all flash and dash with a new line of products when Jobs came back, and suddenly Microsofts image as a company was hurting them. Before it was just as bad, but there was nothing anyone could do.

I have softened my opinion on Microsoft because of these ads, and that is what they are built for. Not to sell a product, but to build a friendlier image.

thats a good post. I have a mac and a pc, the mac does stuff, where the pc makes stuff difficult. Both have their good and bad points really, but apple have a better image to go with the product.
