Warner has never really gotten "audio" at all. On any format.

They stuck with 384 kbps forever on DVD when they could have moved to 448. They never embraced DTS and the handful of discs released like that because of marketing pressure barely mentioned it on the box.

They also released cool hand luke on Blu-ray with mono (2.0) 192 kbps lossy DD audio. Outrageous. No doubt they thought "it's just an old mono movie". They don't even UNDERSTAND what the difference is with lossy and lossless... I assume that the guy in charge is tone deaf. Those of us with laserdisc know that old mono films suffer terribly with lossy DD compression compared to the lossless PCM we enjoyed on laserdisc. Now warner wants to keep the audio lossy for historic mono films.

They need a corporate shakeup over this. No one, NO ONE, should let them off easy. Today it's a film you may not care about. Tomorrow it will be your favorite classic.

Well Speed Racer is actually just over 2 hours.. still not sure if that would work..

Sorry, but I pay a premium price - I expect a premium product EVERY time.

They don't get a free pass. It is way too late in the game to be pulling cr@p like this.

Warner used to do this to Blu-ray to try and make HD DVD look superior (only putting lossless tracks on HD DVD and neglecting Blu-ray, ie. Superman Returns, etc.). There is no good reason why they continue to do this today. A BD-25 can hold a hi-def movie with lossless sound (it has in the past).

Warner won't get me for a double dip.

I 100% agree David. Warner's stubborness with 384kbs DD was amazing in the face of the entire DVD industry using 448 as standard. The DTS was another issue I never understood? Also, don't get me started on the "cardboard packaging" they used for DVD.

I agree, no one should give them a free pass when they can't even do the basics of hi-def delivery. The thought of 1.0 is insulting, but 1.0 DD on a BD disc? As you state, it may be a film you don't care about now, it may be a film you care very much about later.

they can do this and i agree add special extras on another disc if one is not enough.Even they can choose DTSHDMA audio just they should learn from FOX and Universal how to use a BD-25

An example is Into the Blue released by Sony on BD-25 about 120 minutes using MPEG2 and PCM surround Track.BD-25 can be great if it is used correctly

Paramount has been working on 2 $300 million grossing films, Iron Man and Indy, and they still manage to put lossless on all of their other releases. There is NO EXCUSE for WB to leave off a lossless track. NONE.

If they are going to skip a title...I have no problem with it being this one. No offense to those of you who like it, but I am more upset when they do not included lossless audio for films for folks over the age of 18 or so. I'm not as concerned when it is a film that appeals to children much more than adults.

Yeah, but if they are going to skip lossless audio, why not do it on a romantic comedy or some drama that is all dialouge - instead they pick a movie about cars racing at high speeds, made by the creators of the Matrix.

I don't know, but I prefer it just the way it is. I'm more likely to purchase/watch that drama than this. If my brain exploded and then caught on fire...this movie is the image I would expect to see.

Anyway...I would save the lossless audio for the 18+ crowd.

This movie is 135 mins long...I think we would have seen some degradation due to the disc capacity, though...

Indeed it is... a crapload implies that everything pssible has been "released." A buttload implies that there is a lot being withheld from being released.

An edit to your comment...

A buttload implies that there is a lot being withheld from being released, but that release is certain and pending.
