They've been releasing Blus since late July if I'm not mistaken. Not even 2 full months yet. Do you seriously expect them to fit 2 years worth of HD-DVD releases into 2 months of releasing on Blu-ray? Are you crazy?

Universal said when they first announced they were quitting HD DVD that they had to reevaluate some of their releases because they weren't good enough for Blu-ray. They appear to have been making an effort to make them good enough, so I think it's worth the wait. I'm happy the days of crappy ports are over.

Universal did some rush jobs during the final days of HDDVD at Toshiba's behest. Tosh wanted a bigger movie selection, and Universal was pretty much all they had. I'm glad they're doing new masters and DTS Master Audio tracks for their Blu-rays instead of doing copy n paste ports.

Like any other publisher, thier first priority is day and date movies fresh from theaters, then popular catalog titles.

Anything that came out on HDDVD will come to Blu-ray, and look/sound better than ever. Universal's doing fine.

- Fear & Loathing in Las Vegas
- Lost in Translation
- Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind

Since they have already been released on an HD format shouldn't they be out by now or soon at least? (although, I saw Lost in Translation on HDDVD and was NOT impressed, it looked like DVD). Could it be that maybe since they were released on HDDVD that they are kind of held to that brand until a contract runs out or something?

Thanks for any help!
They can't release every title they have at once. I'm waiting for Bourne but I know there are others who can't wait for Riddick or Fast and the Furious or the titles you mentioned, or Serenity and on and on. Be patient.

I'm so sorry to say but there is NO "quality control" on Blu-ray. If there was, we wouldn't have the bad transfers we do and trust me, we have many worse than FALILV... Outside of the print damage, it looked pretty good.

A couple Universal Blu-rays (Mummy 1,2/U-571) have been DNR'd more then the HD DVD version with high bitrates and poor patch jobs to cover print damage... In this case, I would rather have had a port of the video. The added DTS MA is a nice touch though. So far that is the only real upgrade over their counterparts. They also have been stripping features that the HD DVD/DVD's have on the Dawn of the Dead 2004, Land of the Dead & The Thing.

If it's on the source, then it'll be on the blu ray.

I want Jaws, Jurassic Park, and King Kong. That will be the trifecta for me! What can I say? I love my monsters!

I would love to have Streets of Fire but I can't imagine it was popular enough on HD for Universal to bother with a Blu. I'll cross my fingers. I would kill for a Serenity Blu-ray too. I know that one is coming.

I also remember the audio being a little schizophrenic also.
I'm curious - what was poor quality about it specifically? Can you remember a particular scene so I can see what you're talking about? I'm watching on a 1080p projector and 80" screen and it looks, as I said, very faithful to the theatrical print that I saw when it came out.

When did they say their HD DVD catalogs were not good enough for BD? Never heard of any such statement from Universal Studios Home Entertainment being made.

Substitute King Kong and Serenity with Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz for me.

Universal said they would only re-work crappy transfers but so far they have re-encoded everything to keep the bit meter wh0re$ happy

I'm interested to see how much work they put into "The 40-Year-Old Virgin" as it looked terrible on DVD as well as HD DVD... Heavy DNR & EE
