Both claim the 550 WILL internally decode True-HD, AND DTS-MA. They will start shipping on October 23rd @ $399. |

I returned my BDP-350 as soon as I heard that the BDP-S550 would be 399 $ (same price I paid for the 350 at launch). |

So far, the actual street date I read for the 550 to be in most of the stores is October 27th, but the actual selling date, will probably be more realted to what part of the country you are in. This is why having the player shipped via the mail, by a preorder, will probably be faster, than wating around for your local retailer to start stacking them up.

I can't wait for this player to be released commercially. I've been waiting for some time now.

I got mine already! I've had it since October 6th! I absolutely love this player! I'm so glad I got it! $250 is an incredible deal! (with the Sony Style CC offer). I'm sure all of you will love it. I will post my final thoughts probably some time next weekend. Bitstreaming DTS-MA and Dolby TrueHD is sickkkkk!
![]() Oh, if you guys have any questions, just let me know. I should be able to answer some. I'll be playing with it tonight for sure! |

I've heard mixed responces. Do this indeed decode DTS-MA internally ??
Thanks for your responces tuco. Also looking to get the Onkyo SR-705 in the future. Do you like your receiver ?? Last edited by kevinokev; 10-10-2008 at 07:28 PM. |

And about my receiver. Yes, I really like it. For the money, you can't go wrong with the 606. One thing that is kinda quirky about it is the fact that it can overheat, but as long as its well-ventilated, it should be fine. I've thrown a lot of blu-rays at it and it's decoded everything flawlessly. Even problematic DTS-MA blu's like Master and Commander and Pan's Labyrinth. Hope that helps you out. If you have any other Q's regarding the 606 or the 550 just let me know. ![]() |

I appreciate your help. I suppose I'll be finding out first hand next Saturday (that is if Best Buy sells the player the same day as Circuit City is advertising it).
I've been looking forward to this player since the Spring so it will be nice to finally have it. I already have 12 discs, bought a 2m Monster 1000 HDMI cable and an 8-gig pen drive. My wife thinks I'm funny for buying them without a player. She'll understand once we watch the first movie. Two more questions: Have you hooked up the player to any Live content?? Does it have 1-gig of onboard storage for content or simply a 1-gig pen drive for the external usb port??? Last edited by kevinokev; 10-10-2008 at 07:58 PM. |

It comes with a 1GB Micro Vault Tiny flash drive. It doesn't have internal memory. It's the flash drive that Sony recommends to use with it. I haven't hooked it up to the internet yet but I will soon. I'm going to buy some powerline ethernet adapters so I can hardwire the 550 to an ethernet cable since the 550 is in my living room where I have no ethernet jacks. It all depends if you wanna keep the flash drive that it comes with or upgrade to that 8GB drive that you purchased. Remember you could always delete your BD-Live content when you don't want it anymore!

Oh, and one more thing, you should ditch that monster cable and buy them from monoprice.com. It's the same thing. You're just paying for the brand. You can get HDMI 1.3 cables really cheap. Here's the link. Everyone here will agree! Do yourself a favor and return that cable and get it here!

It's funny you mentioned that. I looked into this and had gone back and forth and am indeed going to return them. I only need 6 feet and it seems the only benefit from Monster's cables are on long runs (25+ feet), due to it's great signal shielding . Other than that, the cables you recommended will more than certainly suffice.
I suppose my ordering them was due to convincing myself to get the "best". Thanks for your suggestion and it's good to know that when I buy another, I won't be spending another $88 on an HDMI cable. |

This a qoute from another thread on the site from "Epontius". I believe this answers your question and seems to require a slight adjustment in the audio setup.
I can give you a definitive YES. My current set up is HDMI only. I have the S550's "BD Audio" setting set to "direct" and my receiver is receiving 7.1 LPCM (decoded from DTS-HD MA 7.1) over HDMI. It sounds fantastic. The YES and NO part seems to relate to the "BD Audio" setting. If set to the default "MIX" you will only ever get core lossy DTS 5.1 decoded to 5.1 LPCM from any disc with a DTS-HD MA regardless of whether it has secondary audio or not. With it set to "Direct" you will enjoy lossless DTS-HD MA/HR 5.1/7.1 decoded to LPCM over HDMI |
