What's funny is how everyone says we are headed for another depression. If so you have to remember even during those bleak times people found money to go to the movies.
There is something with the whole thought that we need a mental break from reality in times like this. So although the quick answer might be the economy should hurt Blu-ray......it actually might help in a backwards type of way. Of course this all depends on how fast the hardware and software drops in price. |

25 minute wait for Olive Garden last night; 45 minutes at Outback Steakhouse. That was pretty much the average at 6 or so other places. We had to park at the end of the parking lot because the Walmart was packed at 8pm on Tuesday evening, and it was the only parking spots open. Target was no better. Overheard one guy there complaining that due to the economy being so bad, he could only buy one $60 PS3 game instead of the 2 he wanted and now he had to choose. A guy I work with got a 23k loan for a new car on a whim, and his bank offered him a 10k credit card on top of it. A woman I work with is in the process of buying a new car with no money down because she's afraid the one she has now might need new tires and a radiator next year.
Penn State football game for next weekend is almost sold out, and there is no hotel room within 40 miles to be had for under $250 per night--and those are the rooms that normally cost $50. Beaver Stadium is a BIG stadium. Methinks that due to it being an election year, the media is crying panic at the state of economic affairs, which is then causing some businesses to get a bit fearful and not buy as much product as they normally would just to 'play it safe'. "THE DOW DROPS 200 POINTS" sells a lot of papers. Lots more than the "but it recovered 150 shortly thereafter" on page 8. The more panicked they make you feel, the more you turn to them for help and security (and information) during these 'troubled times' and the more than can work to sway you towards who they think you should vote for (whatever side you happen to think they want). The media has accurately predicted 36 of the last 3 recessions, afterall. camper |
