Keep in mind you will need to get a new center if you upgrade your fronts.Thats why if you plan on upgrading you should by pass htib packages

You can put the Polk's on stands. I got the Atlantic speaker stands from Amazon and they work fine. Some said they had issues with them, but I was able to mount them without a major issue.

Cool, found it on Amazon. Thanks.

Now, once I receive my Polk RM6750 and the Karmon Kardon AVR245, what are all the wires that are necessary and where can I find them for a decent price? I saw a lot of wiring pics from people in the "home theater pics" where the wires that are connected to the speakers have this clear look and good quality. I don't want the cheap looking ones where it's just the wires inserted. I hope that makes sense

If it's these stands:

http://www.amazon.com/Atlantic-77305...4614569&sr=8-1

I would steer clear. I bought them and couldn't mount my RM6750's to my satisfaction. I refused to just use double-sided tape and the back bracket collided with the "power port" on the rear of the speaker. I ended up returning them. If I'm going to use speaker stands, I want them to be rock solid with my kid running around.

*edit* EQ, if you got them mounted, I'd be interested in seeing a picture of the back of them. Maybe they changed the bracket or something?

*edit two* Apparently, multiple people have had more luck than I have in mounting them, so this may not be good advice.

If you think it's a good decision, then it's a good decision.

Both are known for having way more than the normal amount of problems.
Onkyo's run hot, really hot. Heat is the enemy of electronics. Onkyo is also known for horrible customer service.
Harmon's have plenty of problems of their own. I read on AVS forums that one of the online retailers stopped selling them b/c about 1/2 of them were being returned with problems.
Denon, Pioneer, and Sony all have approx. 2% failure rate.
I imagine that the above will probably make some people mad. I have no emotional connection to any of the above mentioned electronics. I am simply reporting on what I've read after numerous hours of reading reviews online.

I don't know where all of this nonsense about heat problems with Onkyo receivers is coming from, but my 605 doesn't get hot at all and I play my music(mostly hip-hop) with the volume as high as 75 for hours without any issues. I watch movies at 65-75 depending on the film's audio since I liked to be immersed in the film, and guess what.....heat is not an issue. I can put my hand right over the vents and its barely warm. My PS3, XBox 360, computers, and my plasma all get hotter than my receiver. This is my second Onkyo by the way and neither gave me any problems with heat. Maybe they run hotter than some other manufacturers' products, but they are certainly not heating to dangerous levels. Onkyo has been around for a very long time, and I'm sure that their products are designed to run at more than safe levels, or the Onkyo name would've been mud years ago. As for Harmon, I've read that there were some video issues with certain receivers, but only in specific circumstances. I can't say what the failure rate is though. I do know that Newegg sells quite a bit of refurbs, so they do get returned a lot.

I also put the Polk rm6750 on atlantic stands from amazon

I do however think I rushed buying speakers because it was my first ever hometheare system. Although i still think for the size you get a good sound

I will soon upgrade to Polk CS1 (already bought)
And 4 Polk r50 ($60 per speaker at frys)
and a Polk Sub

Total $550

Money i spent on Polk rm6750 $200
plus my new upgrade $550

Totaly $750

if i just waited i would have saved $200.

Although if you are on a budget i would buy a pair of Polk R50 x2 $150 Polk CS1 $70 Polk Sub $120

so for $340 you would have a 3.1 system and later you can pick up another pair of polk 50

if i could go back that is what i would do.

Well problem is...I've already picked up the RM6750 last night. Ordered the Harmon Kardon AVR254 this morning.

How good is the Atlantic stands that you bought? Are they pretty stable? I have 2 dogs and I'm thinking about placing all 4 speakers on stands in my carpeted living room. I don't have enough room on my TV stand for speakers except the center. So I will be putting stands on both fronts and rears. I'll try to post pics up later this week.

I just looked at your pics in the home theater thread. Sonnova, those are the same stands that I had! I think I must've been missing a bracket or something, because I couldn't mount mine for crap.

Mind taking a pic of the back of the stand/speaker so I can see how you mounted them?

You'll be happy with the speakers...no worries. They aren't the best out there, but they are an excellent value and produce nice sound. I love them. You'll find many on this board own them, and just because one person decided to upgrade 8 minutes after buying a new set doesn't mean they suck.

I have a Boston Terrier, and she bumps the stands once in a while and they hold their position fine (mine are on carpet as well). They are pretty well balanced, so I think it would take a good bump from a larger dog to knock them over.

It wasn't difficult mounting them at all. All you need to do is bend the bracket a little bit so its not pushing up against the power port. I did it with pliers and a wrench. It took seconds. The speakers stay put with the screw (I use the tape as a 'cushion'...didn't stick it to the speakers). I'll take a pic if I get a minute today.

Ah. Yeah, I did that and wasn't happy with the results. Glad I wasn't missing anything then. Kind of moot now since I upgraded from those yesterday, but was just curious.

Hello, I had the problem of choosing between the Onkyo 606 and the Harmon Kardon 255 just last week.

Bought my Harmon Kardon on Sunday and I'm just getting familiar with it.

Can you share with us what issues it has with PS3.....

I'm new at all this but the issues that I have found bother me, I have found

1. it loses the clicking sound as you scroll through the PS3 xrossmedia bar

2. and then other options o the xmb disappear

3. and it seems that the resolution is not as HD as when it is hooked up to the TV direct.

Besides that everything else is good except for the delay in changing source and the lack of a smooth transition when doing so...... I love my ps3 so I'm feeling ripped off.

Are these issues fixable? I should have gone for the onkyo.....but for the cosmetics HK, saying that I want to buy the Sub woofer for the HK because of the looks but can’t purchase it on its own, got to buy the pack.
