The Platinum Editions are the 14 top-selling Disney Animated Classics. In the Spring of 2003 Disney changed their Platinum Edition line adding 7 more titles (adding ''Peter Pan,'' ''Sleeping Beauty,'' ''Pinocchio,'' ''Fantasia'' ''Dumbo'' ''Alice In Wonderland'' ''The Fox And The Hound'')
Here's another thing for Bolt to "Lalala, I'm not listening, 'cause I wish it were real! " about:

Pan and Fantasia were added to the Platinum list after the fact; Dumbo, Alice, and F&H WEREN'T. Bzzt, another five points off our fantasy world, Mr. 7.
(But don't worry, a lot of people have trouble telling the difference between Official Platinum and the later promotional rush for 2-disk SE's, too.)

...Any help out here from the experts, Ernie, before we've got more dopes believing it?

Song of the South is not going to be released. Disney researched the possibility of releasing this on DVD, and after extensive study they decided it would be too offensive. I am not intending to drum up a debate on the issue of race, but I bet they know what they are doing.

Personally, I hate misinformation almost more than I hate car alarms.

To the point at hand, it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out that certain Disney titles are way overdue for new editions. Some of this schedule actually looks it was culled from the year 2000 Gold Collection schedule (Rescuers Down Under, The Black Cauldron).

The most important thing to consider, however (besides the fact that the source is Wikipedia) is that Disney tries to keep its pulse on the marketplace, and any all dates would be subject to change (and they frequently are), so I wouldn't take any release date one year away let alone FOUR years away with a grain of salt. And as for Song of the South -- Bob Iger already stated he's not releasing it, any schedule that features Song of the South on it is an obvious fan creation.

Disney doesn't have the testicular fortitude to release SOTS.

I was hoping they would release it as part of their limited edition "Disney Treasures" line, but no luck.

they can have finding nemo. give me the black cauldron and the rest of the animated classics. while i do love some of the pixar films nothing holds a candle to the classic 2-d animation that disney was once so known for.

If Disney doesn't want the headaches to go with releasing SoTS, they should license it to Criterion. That would be enough signal that this wasn't just another Disney animated movie. Bring in someone critical of the film to do commentary. Give it a first rate documentary, too, exploring the controversy around the film.

I appreciate your enthusiasm for hand-drawn animation, but that's what it is -- hand-drawn animation, not 2-D.

No one ever referred to hand-drawn animation as "2-D" until CGI features started popping up. Problem is, calling a hand drawn film a "2-D" film makes it sound like some sort of outdated software...Like hand-drawn animation is "Animation 2.0". I've been heartened to see many in the critical community reject the "2-D" moniker and being using "hand-drawn" instead. Thumbs up, as they say.
