I'm actually hoping for them to do what they did with Constantine. They created a dark, R rated, adult horror/action movie. Sure, it wasn't exactly the comic, but at least it knew it's roots and stayed true to it in tone. I love Constantine, so I'm hoping Preacher would be in that vein.

You bring up good points as well, but if they make it on a small enough budget, it'll be able to do fine at the box office and not hurt the integrity of the comic. So I'm hoping for the best...I really am.

RED did well at the BO and possibly wouldn't have done as well if it was R-rated and stayed closer to the comic. Personally, I thought it was OK and a decent rental...but I would have seen it in the theatres and bought the blu-ray if they stuck closer to the comic.

To satisfy Preacher fans who have been waiting forever for a movie to get made it has to be R-rated if they stay true to the source material..that would be the only way to make the fans happy..

When I Am Number Four came out in the United States, director D.J. Caruso had yet to officially sign on to direct the adaptation of Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon‘s iconic comic book series Preacher. Now that Number Four is opening internationally, though, the cat’s out of the bag and the international press has been chatting him up about it. French website CloneWeb got the director not only to open up about the film, but name a few of the people who he’s talked to about potential roles.

Caruso was very insistent that casting hasn’t started and the script isn’t quite ready, but that he’s been getting a ton of texts and calls from people who want to join in. He said Chris Pine really wants to play Jesse, Shia LaBeouf wants to play Arseface and Alex Pettyfer wants to play the Saint of Killers.

Here’s Caruso’s response when asked how he’s planning to approach the film:

From there he mentioned the actors above and said that he was “excited by the [casting] possibilities I have because I think the roles are so different that everyone would want to be in the movie.”

As for the script, John August is still working on it, but is making progress.

From there, Caruso went on to discuss a bit about dealing with the intense religious themes in the film but really just discussed the plot of the books as opposed to saying anything very insightful.

If you’re a fan of Preacher and worried about Caruso, you can take two positive things out of this video. One, Caruso is a huge fan with a passion for the material who sought out the job. And two, when he could have been an ass and tried to steer the conversation back to the movie he was promoting, he didn’t, which is very cool.

That cast, however, um, yeah. Thoughts?

D.J. Caruso Updates Status Of PREACHER Movie

While promoting his upcoming family film titled Standing Up, director D.J. Caruso also gave an update on where things stand on the adaptation of Garth Ennis and artist Steve Dillon's Vertigo comic book series, Preacher. Said Caruso, "I’m still attached to Preacher and we’re wrestling with Sony because I got another movie at Sony called Invertigo, which is a big action film we’re trying to get going this summer. So Preacher got put on the back burner, but we’re still involved with Preacher and hopefully we’ll have some good news on that soon. Todd August wrote a great script. I think it’s one of those features that has to kind of go through the studio system if it’s going to be made for a certain price. So we’re kind of revisiting a way to approach making the movie in the right way."

I didn't know Caruso was involved. It was very high on my list because of the comic and the amazing Sam Mendes ... Not it's the Disturbia-dude? Meh.

that's sort of sad that Preacher is just pushed aside for other projects.
