Alright, if I sell my 360 by the end of this week I'll have my PS3 by the end of this week. So, I'm going to be playing a bunch of online so if anyone is interested in joining post your PSN ID. And thanks for the info everyone, I really appreciate all the help.

How can you possibly want to get rid of your 360 the same week that GOW2 is being released? I mean, seriously, at least play through the game before you change consoles...unless you aren't into FPSs.

Friend has a 360. I'll be playing Gears Of War 2 at his house. So don't worry, I'll be playing Gears 2 no matter what! I'm a bigger fan of Metal Gear Solid anyway...

Default heres what i did.

i am by no means a ps fanman. i was a diehard N fan despite the fact that I outgrew mario and all those type games years ago. then i went HD...i hated the way my wii looked...i hated how my dvd player looked. so the day after i got my tv...i started looking for an HD player of some sort or an upconvert dvd player. i spoke with a few friends and the pointed me towards the ps3. i had played heavenly sword (a short but awsome game) and live 08 and enjoyed both games. based on the fact that most BD players that I could find at the time were more than a ps3 (i wanted a wifi standalone, but couldnt find it). so i went with the ps3 and havent regreted a second of it! if your a gamer it has a majority of 360's games, in addition to killer exsclusives and free online! if you like music...you can do that too. videos, check, web browsing...ummmm...check (i like wii's internet browser better)...photos....yup. then you throw in a wifi BD player and i was sold. its a good thing i didnt buy a hddvd player because they were cheaper....the next week (literally) bluray won the format war!

oh yeah....
this is how i hooked up my ps3 (luckily i had the money at the time)
i bought warhawk from retail (it comes with a blue tooth headset for 6o dollars)
i bought a ps3 blue tooth remote control (i couldnt imagine using a controler for movies!)
and a second controler...unfortunetlly it was before the rumble came out!

Honestly the only con for me personally is the lack of a 'formal' power button on the remote. But since the lastest firmware updates allows the PS3 to turn off after 'x' amount of time of inactivity, I usually let it go now anyways. Everything else has been superb with it. As a matter of fact, I like it so much I bought another one. Can't imagine buying a stand alone anytime soon...but as others have said...to each his own.

Not sure if you're referring to the blu-ray remote, but (and I know this isn't a 'formal' button) you can simply hold the ps button on the controller and a menu will pop up with the option to shut down the machine.

The PS3 is certainly no "low-end" BD player. I heard that Criterion uses it to review their blu-ray movies...Criterion is synonymous with quality.

I bought my PS3 to use as a BD player pretty much exclusively. I do have a half dozen PS3 games, but those are primarily exclusives because I prefer the 360 for games. The difference between games on the PS3 vs 360 isn't drastic, so don't expect night and day and for a lot of games I've seen it's really down to what you personally think looks better.

Updating the firmware on the PS3 is super simple, once you have the machine connected to your network (wireless or wired) and running. Using the controller sucks, so I recommend HIGHLY the remote if you plan to use it as a BD player.

The PS3 is a good choice as a player, but like others said there are much better ones out there. But at the price point, it's probably the best choice and you won't go wrong.

They also run it thru a video processor. A DVDO VP50, which cost a lot more than the PS3 itself.

Edit : Actually, its a DVDO VP50 Pro. Costs about $3500.
The article is here. Read the last paragraph for the set up.

Is there a remote control for PS3? where can I buy this?
I've just joined this sight and I'm new at technology so I may ask primative questions but I hope somebody can help. I have just got my home theatre system happening, I didn't know anything about amps or speakers so I got the installer to source and instal them. Now I'm not happy with the amp because it is not a zone 2 and it is a 5.1?? so he exchanged it to a second hand amp that is still an 5.1 but it allows me to play all speakers at one time. the amp is a sony str-de598. Can anybody advise me on what amp is sutable to get the best blu-ray quality outcome, my tele is a 52'' LG starlet 1080p.

Any place that sells the PS3 will usually sell the remote also. Costs about £15 in the UK, but not sure on price in Oz. The best thing about this remote (as I'm sure other member's will agree with) is that as it's bluetooth (i.e. doesn't need line of sight like infra-red) it'll work anywhere within 10-15 metres of the PS3, even if it's in a different room to the PS3 should you wish to do that.

There are also a bevy of remotes that come with a receiver that you put in one of the PS3's USB ports that can give you IR functionality. This is only advantageous over the Official Sony BT remote if you want to include your PS3 in any sort of a universal remote setup.

There is also this, but it's been sold out for as long as I've been going to the webpage.

Well, not selling my 360. Instead I'm selling my old frig and dryer. So, I'll be playing Gears Of War 2 in the comfort on my home. If anyone needs a big frig or a few month old dryer send me a PM.

I read in thread somewhere that I could get a 320gb hard drive for 80 dollars. Where can I find this hard drive? And is it really worth it?

Pros

Fast load times due to cell chip
Internet connection and hdd makes firmware updates easy
ability to stream media from home network
ability to purchase or rent downloadable movies from PSN
plays video games
web browser

Cons

Can not bitstream HD audio
noisier than most standalone players
No IR support for universal remotes (can purchase USB adaptors but reasonably priced one does not have full function. The one that has full function is pretty expensive and usually has a wait time.)

That's the ticket, keep the gaming system and who needs clean clothes and a place to put day old pizza?

Here is a list of cheap 320's on newegg.com, a great place to shop for such things. You could also probably try amazon.com. The HDD is only worth it if you intend to use the space. Plus, bear in mind that if you have a lot of stuff on the internal HDD and want to make a backup of your PS3 (to a USB HDD), then that backup HDD will need to be at least as big as how much space you are using on the internal HDD.

I think you'll be fine. Some have said that the 40 GB PS3 is using a smaller chipset that doesn't heat up as bad.
