It's tough, though, since a lot of the content was made to look awesome back in the day but now looks terrible. For example, the thing I was watching had groundbreaking CG animals back when it was made, but now it's just ugly.

Some upscaled dvd's are acceptable. Some make me want to poke my eye's out. I really wanted to watch Lock, stock, and smoking barrel awhile back. So I got it from netflix. The dvd was so scratched and it looked terrible. I watched it but uughghgg. Last time. Blu all the way.

Devil's Rejects looks great on an upscaled regular old DVD. I think the 70's look makes it easier to watch, how much better can the BD be?

When the next thing drops in a decade or so, BD will probably look like garbage by comparison. Of course, we'll still have the "BD is good enough" crowd then.

I can stand to watch standard dvd if I don't really find a movie "blu-ray worthy". Meaning if it's not a movie I am willing to buy I will rent it on dvd.

I have found that , even if it is a great movie, if it isnt upconverted, the poor PQ can take me out of the movie. All the digital hiccups and macroblocking frustrate me to death.....just yanks me right out of the story.

I have absolutely no problem watching dvd's on my 60" HDTV. There are a few bad transfers that don't look great but most look quite good for 480p. Blu-ray looks better but not everything is on blu yet. There are a lot of movies that I like to watch that may never be on blu-ray, won't stop me from watching the dvd's.

Not to pick on you, but I've always thought it to be hilarious whenever someone says how large their television is. lol I'm just saying that people don't always have to put in the size all the time.... what is wrong with saying "I have absolutely no probelm watching dvd's on my HDTV"? I don't put in my television's size unless I'm asking for technical help.

I took a chance and watched Disc 1 in my coveted LOTR Extended collection and I couldn't concentrate because I was thinking "this would look and sound great on BD." It really could use an upgrade because it just wasn't as sharp as the movies I am used to watching now.

I just hope I never ride in a Ferrari or Lamborghini!

DVD looks a lot better on my 21" SDTV. It just looks blurry on my HDTV unless I upscale it, in which case it looks a lot better but still not "good enough."

+1 if not +1,000!

I certainly would prefer all of my movies on BD, but that ain't gonna happen for a lot of reasons. So I'm not going to limit myself from watching great movies on just plain old regular DVD. Out of the DVD's I have I can see myself double-dipping on maybe 10% of them. Braveheart, Gladiator, Bridge On The River Kwai, the Bourne movies, the LOTR movies , just to name a few. But the vast majority of my collection will never see the BD format on my shelves.

Just my 2 cents!

I put it in there because the size of the TV generally has a direct influence on how bad SD looks. Generally the larger the screen, the worse SD looks. If I think dvd's look good projected on a 60" screen they must look decent.
Not trying to brag about the size of my TV, it is a simple fact that SD looks worse the larger the screen. SD satellite channels look horrible on my tv, but dvd's can look very good(some don't but most are acceptable).

lol Oh don't worry, I didn't convict you of bragging. By my own large screen, I think that depending on the upconverted movie it could look great or not. LOTR for example looks tremendous on my television. Other movies not so much....
