Spielberg has such a wide and various body of work, it amazes me that people still think of him as Walt Disney Jr. -- What does he have to do? Shoot some snuff porn?

When Spielberg started shooting Schindler's List, everyone rolled their eyes and said the movie was beyond his "innocent" sensibilities. He then wound up delivering one of the great achievements in American cinema. I think all of you who are so quick to judge need to take a deep breath, sit back, and see what happens.

People forget that Justin Lin made Better Luck Tomorrow. Which is a brilliant film. That's why he was picked to helm the Oldboy remake not because of F&F 3.

I still think they shouldn't remake it but if they did Justin would do a good job. But it shouldn't be an action star. Oh Daesu in the original was a chubby older father who was pushed to the edge. It should be Philip Seymor Hoffman. He would be perfect for the role. Or maybe Paul Giamatti. Then they can get Benecio Del Toro to play the rival or someone like that.

If done correctly then I think it could be pulled off. Justin always said he would keep the
[Show spoiler]incestuous angle
of the film intact.

It's because he looks nothing like the original character and wouldn't fit into the original plot. He's a good actor though. His best performance was the Fresh Prince when his father came back.

My point is that Indy 4 was his last film and therefore that shows where he is at right now with his film making.

Just because he has made outstanding work in the past doesn't mean he will still make that quality of work and Indy 4 proves the point.

pretty silly to assume because he made indiana jones 4 that it means every film in the future from him will be the same caliber. didnt know thats how stuff worked.

How else would you rate someone other than their current performance? For example if someone is making crap, then why would you think that they would make pure gold right after that?

Yeah, Speilberg went from the GREAT Minority Report to the mediocre AI then Indy 4? Sounds like a downhill spiral.

i'm not going to sit here and argue indiana jones. the fact remains, lucas wanted indy 4 the way it was. and you cant assume he's going to continue to make bad films because you didnt like his last movie

As much as I like Spielberg, Oldboy should not be remade. This is the problem I see with remakes. American film tries to remake oversees film, and it's not anywhere close to being the same. For those of you who are film buffs, then you would understand that different cultures have different issues abounding. To simply take a cultural product like Oldboy and try to slap it as American is completely unnecessary. Not to mention, the same thing has been happening for years with The Eye, My Sassy Girl, and numerous others. They never turn out well.

Indy was about religion before it turned into the storyline of aliens.

well he made good films before, so using your logic, each movie of his should have got better.

What an odd choice for a film to remake. Would they stick to the original storyline? Will Oldboy still do you know what with you know who? I highly doubt it. Strange idea.

Well based upon my logic doesn't necessarily indicate that it will 'improve' each time, but gives you a good based assumption on what is to come. As it is an assumption, you can always be incorrect as we were with Indy 4 as we all assumed (atleast I did) that it would be a very good film.

You are right as I do not want to turn this into an Indy 4 thread, but the only reason why I'm mentioning it is because it was his last work.

I hope that my assumption is incorrect and the Oldboy remake is very good!

If they take that part out of the film it ruins it all IMO.
