I actually converted from a 1080p LG LCD to a Panasonic plasma for my home theater. Your statement is quite absurd when you offer no valid reason to back this up. ALL of the professional reviews agree that Panasonic makes the best plasmas next to Pioneer, AND the best plasmas are better than the best LCD's. I will admit that I initially thought plasma was nothing special until I decided that I wasn't satisfied with the black level of my LCD. Its not bad, but I just had the feeling I could do better. I visited a Circuit City in my area that has dimmer lighting in the television area than most stores I've previously visited(BestBuy..Cough, cough...Sears..cough) and they had a Panny in between some Sony, Samsung, JVC, and Toshiba LCD's. At first I thought, better...maybe, but barely. Then I stepped back about 15ft or so, and it was a slaughter! The black level and overall pop of the picture was all too apparent. I knew at that moment it was plasma all the way. I even gave up on 1080p and went to 768p since the 1080p Panny's were out of my price range at the time, and I don't regret it one bit! I suggest that you do yourself a favor and dig a little deeper in your research before making such a reckless statement. I've spent God knows how much time researching tv's before I settled. Almost went with a Samsung plasma, but the Panny had a sharper picture. I get nothing but compliments on my tv when people come over and most of my friends have LCD's. My one friend with a Sammy plasma prefers my tv too.

plasma owners get a lot of guff about lcd's being better tv's, they gotta stick together
I love Sony XBR's when they have a good signal. But, we are still in an age where we mostly have SD content on cable and SD looks terrible on LCD's.

Plasma makes SD look great, not as good as a CRT but still much better than an LCD.

If the Sony XBR 6 was equal to the price of a Panasonic plasma I would consider a Sony or even Samsung, but until they handle SD content better I'm going with plasma.

40 inch XBR 6 is $2300 and a 42 Panasonic 80u is $739. Do the math

I ordered from abes of maine two weeks ago recieved me PZ800U in 7 days with the expidited shipping and three year in home warranty for $2200. I hear that circuit city is matching internet offers. The Tv alone was $1849. I am very pleased with my decision this TV is fantastic!!

By the way I have the 50 inch. You may be hard pressed to find the 800U for $1000, You will have better luck with the 80U. Good Luck.

Yeah but was it worth spending an extra $1,000 over the 80u?

I could get a PS3 and a receiver with that leftover change.

Reviving this thread - Anyone know the best place now? Amazon seems to have only 3rd party sellers for MOST of it's panasonic plasmas. Local B&M's are a joke in regards to prices.

I'm not sure about different sizes, but Cleavland Plasma seems to have good prices although I'm not sure how much their shipping is going to cost you.

Seems unfair that the 80u has dropped down in price by $700 or more on each model but the 800u's are stuck with high prices. I'm not happy about Panasonic discontinuing the 42" and 46" 800u's either.

Fry's has good deals when it comes to B&M's. Black Friday is a joke this year -I haven't seen a decent TV for sale yet in the ads.

Sucks to be us right now.

Sears has the 42 80u for $799. Not bad for a 42inch 1080p plasma. If only I werent holding out for 50inches. Hell if i find a good price on the 5080u Ill take that, I can live without some of the newer model features.

However I do think that your Sony Wega KD XBR970 34" Crt is one of the best TV's ever made. Transformers was cut on that tube. Too bad it's not flat

I just bought a 46pz800u on amazon 5 minutes ago, and it came with a free Panasonic blu-ray player. Not only free, but actually took over $60 off the price of the TV. Add a $237 BD player and we'll take off $300! The total price came to $1440. And they were sold by amazon directly, not another reseller.
