That's interesting - I didn't know the extended edition had been released on DVD in Germany. Could I ask you a few questions about it if you don't mind.

Does this DVD edition have optional English subtitles? How many discs are in the set and is the film complete on one disc or split across two discs? Also what extras are included?

Thanks in advance for any information!

Ok in France it will be released on November 27, the theatrical version sadly
Can you tell me when the Bluray version will come in Germany ? Will it be the extended version and do you have either French or English subs on it ? thank you. If such version is released, I may go to Köln just to get it

Well that's what this French site says. Well it does not say so but look at the running time, it says 2h30 which is the theatrical version. The extended version being almost 3 hours.

Yh but if Germany is getting it (Which I hope they do) I'll buy that one as I'd rather have the German stuff on the case .

When I'm in france I shall look at Der Untergang and see what it is.

Yep, at the end you have James Bond that pops out of nowhere and shoots Hitler then Bond scores with a couple of sexy chicks, the end everybody's happy.

It's a 3-DVD set but it has NO english subtitles and only german Dolby Surround 2.0 audio. (That's right, NO 5.1 sound.)
Disc 1 has the movie in its extended version and an audio commentary by producer Bernd Eichinger.
Disc 2 and 3 have almost 4 hours of interviews and documentaries about the making of the movie and the historical background.

Thanks for the info - but the lack of English subtitles would rule it out for me as my German is pretty basic. Also, the lack of 5.1 sound is a disappointment.

From what I've seen, all the promised Blu-ray editions will be just the theatrical version. Still, that's better than nothing.

According to a guy on another forum, the UK one has DD 5.1 audio and hard coded English subtitles.

And what's wrong with the theatrical edition? Isn't it the very film that has garnered all the praise?

no kiddin'! it's not like it ever got nominations for "best extended edition".

downfall is a great film, period. to hold off on the presumption that a particular cut MAY eventually come out is depriving oneself of a kickass film, in my opinion.

gotta get this one ordered soon. hate the price point, only thing that's holding me back.

Oh there is nothing wrong with the theatrical cut. It's just a matter of taste I think. Personally if I really liked a theatrical cut and a longer cut comes on Bluray, I'll want that longer cut as I hope to find more things, more answers, more details to a story I loved. But that's just me.

So.....can anyone confirm that the UK version of 'Downfall' is region-free? Amazon UK is selling it for £14.98 and I'd love to get it. It would also be nice to know if the English subtitles are hard-coded or not.

A customer review on the Amazon UK site said the sound quality on the BD is much worse than the UK DVD, which has DTS while the BD doesn't..... How's the PQ at least?

Thanks.

Yes it's region-free. I believe I read somewhere that the English subtitles are hard-coded, although I haven't tried removing them.

It doesn't have lossless audio (only DD 5.1), but nevertheless I thought the sound quality was fine. It's recorded at a low level so you need to turn the volume up a few extra notches, but then there's plenty of dynamic range and bass extension when the bombs are falling, etc. It certainly sounded better than my Region 1 DVD (I don't have the UK DVD).

The PQ is also excellent, so I don't see any reason to hesitate.
