I'm glad to finally have a date on this. Figured it was going to be like mid year, so I'm pretty happy. Sucks for any developers for games that got delayed to 2009 though :P

I can't tell if you were being sarcastic but I think he was more referring to the fact that he is happy that he won't have to hear his wife complain about future games like she complained about Indy.

Great news! Now if they would only apply the same mandate for custom soundtracks, downloadable content, etc.

First off I just saw Iced Earth they are amazing so nice avatar lol. And trophies arent that big of a deal, but they do tend to get people more addicted to the game by creating challenges that off a reward (trophy) when completed. So that is about the only plus is that people might explore more of the game in different aspects to get trophies.

I'm crossing my fingers for Force Unleashed Trophies. They offered that lame character pack, so maybe they'll have a patch.

I don't think we'll ever get Heavenly Sword trophies, but I can tell you I'd play that game more if they did.

I think that this is a really good thing. A big criteria for me when purchasing a game is if it has trophys. Though its not the only criteria as I did purchase Fallout 3 knowing that it doesn't have trophys (yet, maybe, hopefully).

The reason why its part of my criteria is because it allows you to have additional 'quests' to a game. Its not about actually having trophys in your collection, but making you do things that you may not have thought of doing.

By doing this I feel like it gives the player more things to do without actually adding anything to the game.

Oh and its not like you need MORE things to do in Fallout 3 anyway, lol. Though I will not play my second time through until the trophy patch is pushed.

I saw them in Orlando back in September. They were great! I'm so glad Matt is back with the band!

My best friend just caught them at the Metro in Chicago. Was that the one you were at?

You hit the nail on the head. It's not about actually owning the trophies that makes it great. It gives you another reason to go back through the game i.e. added replay value.

I agree as well, although it is kinda fun to compete with RL friends over trophies.

It adds more gameplay value to games.

Why would one not want them to exist?

I don't see it, they don't make me want to play a game again, nor would I go any extra effort to play it for some virtual item.

All ive connected it with is seeing a annoying message box appear.. btw I have to say i'm a happier person now that i'm turned off notifications lol...

But if it makes everyone happy then so be it, but I will continue to scratch my head.

But you do understand what they do. Just because something does a particular action doesn't necessarily mean you HAVE to follow it. For example, it something adds additional replay value does not mean you need to replay it.

I believe what you mean other than you understanding it is that you do not care for trophys.

EDIT: If it helps try to relate trophys to sports.

You get a ring (trophy) for winning the Super Bowl. Imagine if you win the Super Bowl and everyone but you got a ring.

Also think about growing up and playing sports how you would get trophys for taking 1st, 2nd, what have you place. Imagine getting in 1st place and not getting a trophy for it.

Now just because its not a competition for every single trophy, but its more like an 'event' you must complete and for doing it you get a trophy. The more difficult the event the the higher the value of the trophy it is, Bronze, Silver, Gold.

Do you think that people in the Olympics that win 1st-3rd place wouldn't want to receive their medal (trophy)?

The actual value of the trophys are meaningless, but its just there to represent what you have 'accomplished'.

Im a little worried about the direction gaming is going.. I worry that competition is going to overthrow the fun and entertainment... I feel gaming is going in a direction I cannot follow... I guess im scared...

So really to put my point bluntly (punny I know) is that PSN Trophys are like your Real Life trophys. Think of your PSN Account as your Trophy Case that you have at home.

The only value trophys hold are what you give them.

EDIT: Its not like I show off all of my childhood and adult trophys to everyone that I know nor visit my home. Heck, why at work when you win Employee of the Month award or something similar do you display it? Not everyone does display it mind you and thats OK as its just not what they do.

I could care less one way or the other. but if it makes others happy that they have a virtual trophy to show off. good for them. For me, I never thought anything of the trophys.
