Well stated Blu-Ray Buckeye ! It is a movie that encourages one to think ! Not just sit there like a complete boob and watch non-stop meaningless action !

Thanks.

I've have friends who said they didn't like Gattaca because they aren't into sci-fi. I just stare at them blankly. As if the movie is even sci-fi. The science is only a vehicle by which to tell a humanistic tale.

And that's the sign of a "great" movie, compared to a good movie, or an entertaining movie. Like Platoon - it's a "war" movie, but really the themes are about good and evil, redemption, and lost innocence. Same with No Country For Old Men. It's about a lot more than what is on the surface. And with Blade Runner - it's about what makes us human.

Welcome ! Just like the ORIGINAL Planet of the Apes ! A well thought out look at man and the way man views not only himself but all that surrounds him.

I like that "stare at them blankly" Sometimes you just have to shake your head and walk away !

Sorry for the hi-jack !

I know loads of people love this movie, and I consider myself to have pretty good taste in film, but for some reason I just can't "get" this one.
You may just have to let this one go. A lot of people will never warm to this movie. I think people go looking for sci-fi and action and this movie plays more like an indie art film. For me this movie represents the most respect that has ever been shown to the science fiction genre on film. The storytelling is daring and dangerous in a way that (at least studio) films just aren't made anymore. I think it is an absolute masterpiece on every level.

I just saw the movie recently as well, and while I liked it and thought it was a good movie, I was disappointed because I think the rave reviews about the movie itself were overrated. I'm guessing it would have had a greater impact on me if I had saw it originally, but it just wasn't AMAZING as people had said to me.

what you said was quite interesting, even though i dont agree with what you said,i ve always thought the film never elaborated enough on the nature of the AI replicants, maybe a re-make could?

Default I hate Blade Runner on Blu-ray!

The Blade Runner Blu-ray release includes remastered theatrical US and UK editions, Final cut, Workprint, Director's cut, everything is there. The restoration is beautiful (BU-TE-FUL); for an older movie to be available at this level of quality (sound and picture) is nothing short of amazing. It also has 5 discs in a case that is just a bit bigger than a normal Blu case.

And I hate it!

I've been spoiled, and realize perfection IS possible. Blade Runner has ruined me. If Alien doesn't get the same treatment or Star Wars (originals) I will be furious. Even some newer movies made in the last 5 years don't look as good as Blade Runner. Blade Runner on Blu is one of the reasons I refuse to buy Batman Begins on Blu.

Will Gladiator get a similar treatment, with theatrical and extened cuts in 1080p on 2 seperate discs. Hope so.

Blade Runner deserves 5 out of 5 for sound, audio and if you are a fan like me for the movie too. And of course extras. And it is only 25 dollars. How could someone pay 26 dollars for a film like Marley and Me and not have this in their collection.

Yes, replicants do dream of electric sheep.

Hummm... The first time I saw this movie was a VHS copy (pan and scan) on a 30" without surround sound. Later, I can remember watching this (still on VHS) with surround sound and being blown away. I guess our expectations change over time.

Seeing the Final Cut was amazing!!

Or at least what we compare it to makes a large difference. Dvd vs vhs, the dvd looks phenomenal despit bieng kind of a crummy transfer. Where as the blu is one of the best transfers we will likely see from a film as old as this.

At least rent it....... it's just GOOD sci-fi.... without dopey gimmicks to try to appeal to non-sci-fi fans

Oh my god!!!! I don't know why I'm laughing hard, but good one!!
And I think it's a shame when people write off movies, because they are "sci-fi".
Once I Sunshine and my girlfriend didn't want to see it, because it has "sci-fi" elements in it.
I convinced her to see it and she was blown away, it's one of her fav' movies now.

My favorite movie of all time. My first viewing of it was an unrated edition with voiceover on VHS sometime back in the 80's. I have been in love with this movie since then, hence the use of the name and my avatar.

Sweet, man. I LOVE Blade Runner. I watch it when I want an escape. It feels more real than any other futuristic film out there.

It is stylish in an art house way, for sure, but I've always seen Blade Runner as a detective story, first and foremost. A detective story rooted firmly in film noir. To me, it shares much more with The Maltese Falcon, Chinatown and The Big Sleep than it does with 2001: A Space Odyssey or Silent Running. I still think it's excellent sci-fi, but at its heart -- noir all the way.

(Man...Silent Running would be good to have on Blu...)

Yeah I love this movie... I am a *HUGE* Rutger Hauer fan as well.. Any movie he is in is worth watching.

I think all movies on blu ray should get this treatment, it would make the prices worth it for sure.
