Love 2010...definitely not as psychadelic or artsy-fartsy as it's predecessor, but definitely far more watchable, especially in repeated viewings...Saw it twice in the theater, I have two laserdisc releases, and the MGM DVD. Problem is it's not in anamorphic WS...If it's coming to Blu, it's GOTTA have that.

the movie is alright, if you really have to know what happens after 2001 though, I suggest reading the books.
i think the fact that this is a sequel of one of the greatest movies ever produced really just puts it at a big disadvantage in terms of likability. Maybe if 2001 wasn't so good, I could like 2010 better. |

bingo, not to mention that 2001 is a movie that really didn't need a sequel in the first place.

The problem with 2010 is that it was just approached in a much too conventional manner. The movie had some really great visual effects and a pretty cool ending that helped lift it out of the doldrums. 2010 just doesn't have the epic art movie feel to it like 2001.
Another sticking point with 2010 is how it was filmed. For some odd reason director Peter Hyams very often does the cinematography work on his movies as well. The problem is he's not very good at it. So many of his movies just look drained of color and contrast. 2010 was shot in anamorphic 35mm (Panavision) while 2001 was shot in spherical 5-perf 65mm (Super Panavision 70). |

I check the review but the screen shot are all rather small and its hard to judge if it's a good transfert. Future Shop this a $16 here in Montreal, was wondering if the quality is very good. I always love this movie and I wonder if it's a good pruchase on BD?

2010: The Year We Make Contact
Warner Bros. announced that this catalog title (along with 9 others) will be released on April 7th. I thought the obligatory discussion thread should be started. ![]() Big fan of both 2001 and 2010. It would be a double-dip for me, and I am on the fence until it's known if this releases with lossless audio and a quality transfer. So... What about you guys & gals? Seen it? Getting it? Read the book? |

There's a more Space adventure kind of feel, and the only thing I liked about it was the ending (not that it was over, just the resolution of the story). |
