I'm not big on silver either. Too showy/shiny.

Yeah, it wouldn't match. So far I have saved up enough for the Onkyo 606, two Polk Monitor Audio 60, Polk CS2......to sum it up I have $700.

I'm leaning real heavy towards the 606 - but the 706 looks to have that small "touch more" that may be hard to pass up.

The 806 doesn't seem to be the large step up from the 706. (Ultra THX "Plus" can't be THAT big of a difference over Ultra THX , can it?)

The 606 would be great for my budget - but the 706 is whispering to the Home Theater nut in me. What to do, what to do?!

Cymbol-When I recommended the 705/706 over the 605/606 it was only because the 70X has pre-outs and the 60X doesn't. With the 70X you have the option of adding an external amp down the road if you want to, and with speakers housing 12" drivers, you could probably use one. I would definitely go a step farther and recommend the 80X, but I figured it would be more expensive, and I know you're on a budget.

$500?! At that price wouldn't it be better to just get the 805 instead? It's up to you, man. If you have the money go for it.....if you're a broke college student like me, go for the 606.

I apologize - but what are pre-outs and why do I want them? (I'm seriously interested - I couldn't find a way to phrase that that didn't sound sarcastic).

What's the benifit?

Thanks, (Yes, the budget is an issue, unfortunately.)

Okay I am very confused right now. I jsut purchased the 606 from Amazon and it is being delieved on Wednesday. Now I got it so I can get HD sound of of my PS3. What is the difference between Bitstream Lossless Audo and LPCM? Is there one? Will i still get High Def sound?

Well, the PS3 can't bitstream lossless, so, you don't have any choice but to go with HDMI (LPCM).

When you hook up the PS3 with a HDMI cable to the 606, it will change the DTS HD, and True Dolby HD (all your lossless codecs) to LPCM. They will sound the same, but your reciever won't "say" True Dolby", it will indicate LPCM - but that's fine cause that's how the PS3 transfers the lossless sound.

So, you're good.

The 805 is the most expensive Onkyo reciever (on Amazon). It's almost $700. The 806 is $100 less then the 805 .

However, the 706 is $500 - I'm just wondering if the, almost $200 price difference is worth it.

No one seems to be able to answer or provide advice on this.

Hey Playb3yond, I actually have the exact setup you want but with 2 extra 60s for my surrounds. You'll be very happy with everything but the one thing i've noticed so far is that this setup REALLY needs a sub. You can tell the potential is great but there is definitely something missing without that extra bass. I'm still looking for a great recommendation thats under $300 for the sub!

I haven't looked at the price of the 806 yet but I guess it would be better for you to get the 806 than the 805. I'm sticking with the 606 though. Can't afford the 806 right now.

The benefit is that if you decide to go separates (use the 805 as a pre), you can add your own separate amplifier for more power to your speakers by bypassing the Onkyo amps.

Why would you recommend the 805 over the 806?
