Never was...
By that logic we can't call Wall-E a Blu-ray since no Blu-ray was used in its production.

I have the produced Blu-ray in my desk drawer.
The review here at Blu-ray.com was on the Blu-ray Disc of Wall-E, right?

The screen shots were taken from the Blu-ray Disc, no?

So, unless the review is on the film at a theater...

YMMV.
So did I
You have taken a simple personal disagreement over a reviewers terminology and yours and made it bigger than what it is. Its his review and the reviewer chooses what ever words that they see fit to express their view in words.
Look at Rottentomatoes.com, I looked there just because you seem to have an issue with this like its a blu-ray.com thing. The reviewers there use the word film to express their views as well
Review by Louise Keller:
Quote:
Andrew Stanton, the man behind Finding Nemo, Monsters Inc and Toy Story has the imagination and skills to make this creative and ingenious animated film work on many levels and while the voices may not play the key roles, it's with a tip of the hat to the sci-fi genre that Sigourney Weaver is cast as the voice of the spaceship computer. The underlying environmental message comes across strongly but never with heavy hands and the miracle of the film is that we connect with a little industrious robot that makes a difference and finds love to boot.
last paragraph, they compare the 'films' of Wall•E to other animated Disney films.

Another one...
Review by Andrew L. Urban:

Quote:
In what must be a tongue in cheek nod to his Antipodean origins, writer/director Andrew Stanton has named the CEO of Buy N Large, Shelby Forthright (the only genuine human seen in the film), which is played with his usual dose of edgy, wry wit by Fred Willard. I always think he might do or say something unpredictable (or unprintable) any second.
oh and to further the matter, lets see what these various critics had to say
New York Post
Lou Lumenick
Quote:
Neither robot can speak much more than their names, and one of the film's glories is that the first half-hour is without dialogue, and it is used fairly sparingly thereafter. But the brilliant sound design by Ben Burtt ("Star Wars"), who voices WALL-E, speaks volumes.
Quote:
This is a hugely ambitious theme for a G-rated family flick, and "WALL-E" takes risks that must have given Pixar's consumer-oriented corporate overlords at Disney pause.
flick.....rock on dude

The USA TODAY
Claudia Puig
first paragraph
Quote:
Who would guess that a movie with minimal dialogue and a love story between robots could emerge as one of the best films of the summer? And who would think a tale could be both post-apocalyptic and charming?
The Washington Post
By John Anderson

Quote:
Toil in any industry for a while, and you develop a sixth sense about bad omens. If you're a film critic, for instance, and a studio won't return your calls about a movie, you assume that movie is a steaming heap of garbage. Sometimes, though, it's just nerves. The plot of "WALL·E" may be about a steaming heap of garbage, but the film is a garden of unearthly delights.

So I don't think your complaint holds much merit in the review world as its a common term when reviewing films. Potato, Potatoe...Are you really that bored?

Define Blu-ray Disc.
Define digital.
Define No film was used.

So, we have a review of a digital storage medium, that can only be used for digital information and the transfer in question was purely digital - is that correct?

So, when whomever makes the statement in a review that "no film was used", that pretty much says it all right there.

Now, to call it a film in the same paragraph seems a bit contradictory, does it not?
Whether "film" was used at one time because that was it for movie making and playback, that is not the only one there is today.

Just seems out of place.
Like... taking a diesel truck to the station for gas.

So a bunch of people call it a film...
There are a whole lot of people that say "axe" when they should be saying "ask".
Who is right?

methinks this debate has gone on much longer than necessary, and is even starting to get carried into other threads. people should be able to call movies/films/discs/anything what they want to call it and that's that. if someone disagrees then they can follow their own philosophy, but that doesn't mean everyone should. way it goes.

there have been so many threads in the last couple of weeks criticizing the reviews on this site, some more respectful than others. what gives? no one forces you to only go to bluray.com for your bluray info. if you disagree with a review write your own one up as a user review, doesn't mean you have to create a thread calling a reviewer out on some terrible wrongdoing they've committed because they've upset you.

we've all chosen--and are on the same side here

I agree, enough time has been wasted here with this and its apparent that you argue over anything. Whats next, The sky isn't blue?

as long as you know what they are referring to, does it really matter?

actually its not.

Just so happens to be the specific color of reflected light.

Just like sunset is red because of reflected light through dust/pollution in the air.

i disagree! and i'm going to start 3 threads just to prove it!
oh wait, that's a terrible idea just some light humor. can this be closed now? it seems everyone has gotten a chance to say what they want to say and no one is going to end up satisfied.
