Weak! I emailed them and...

Thank you for your email.

The MacBook Pro 15" does not have enough clearance room inside to
accommodate the BluRay drive.

Sincerely,

i think a $800 price tag is 2x what i paid for the intel mac mini i would put it into! the tray loading drive for desktops is only $500. I might have to put that into my old G4 dual processor. ive been eyeing the cheapest camcorders as well, and I figure I could be producing blu ray films by the end of the summer for under a grand. sick.

has anyone got this drive yet? I am thinking about getting it, but realize that with minimal support from apple, it will be a pain in the ass to accomplish anything worthwile.

also looking into installing linux on my mac, hoping the drive would also work with that.

if anyone has more info, I would love to hear it

Is there any chance this would work on the iMac as well?
I plan to buy a new iMac in 2008 and want to get a BD/DVD/CD burner with it.

if its slot loading its laptop only. this is why for the last 5 MacPros we've purchased (work) I opted for a single drive waiting for the BD drive
edit >chances are, it would make more sense to get an external BD anway. great if you have more PCs/Macs around

Just so you know, the iMac uses a slot loading drive as well.
I don't see why it shouldn't work in the iMac like in the Macbook.

Take a look here: http://www.apple.com/imac/

I think if you go to the actual press release it lists the Intel iMac as one of the compatible systems.

Default BD drive for Mac

Nothing to get excited about, you will not be able to watch movies as HDCP is not supported in Mac OSX for now...
