Eek! I hope you're wrong about that. All of the SD TV show material that I've seen is upconverted to HD is cropped. I want OAR for everything so cropping a 4:3 SD TV show to 1:78 for the use of being an upconvert just plain sucks IMO.

[quote]Just as SD shows are upconverted to be shown on hi-def channels in USA.

AFAIK, only HDNet does this in the USA. They show upconverts of old TV series like Charlie's Angels and Hogan's Heroes. While I admit there is an improvement in PQ it's not worth the cropping IMO.

[b]Seinfeld was recently re-mastered in hi-def for dvd. If they will do it for the dvd, surely they'll do it for the new hi-def discs.
Are the episodes on the Seinfeld DVDs presented in 4:3? I'm not familiar with them as I absolutely hated the show about nothing. It's my understanding that there is no such thing as 4:3 HD which makes me think if Seinfeld was given new HD transfers they've gotta be cropped.

BTW Rob, your wrong about the psp disc.

UMD is just a bullshit name they gave the discs. It plays all 8cm media. CDs, DVDs work just fine with it. I have been told that it also handles 23.3 gb blu-ray media. But I havent seen any proof of that. I have however seen it play dvds, and cds.

Sorry, what did I say about PSP discs? I've forgotten. I'm not sure what the above means. What plays all 8cm media?

Please be aware that many TV shows in the US are shot on film, so the Charlies Angels, Hogan's Heros and such are being retransferred at HD, not upconverted.

It is cool that PSP should handle 8cm discs - I really want one now!

Cheers!

If that's true I still don't like it that they're cropping those TV shows. I hope cropping does not happen on any Blu-ray disc. I want to see every single TV show and movie as it was originally intended to be seen.

I'm not 100% sure, but I though PSP discs were smaller than 8 cm. Also, PSP discs come in a caddy. Plus Sony has never claimed that the PSP can play 8cm discs. I don't know where that one came from. AS far as I know UMD discs are the only disc that the PSP will play.
