I am using a Denon AVR3808 as a pre/pro, but I can't upgrade until the funding is right. Anyone interested in my receiver? I am willing to sell if the price is right.

I have an Integra DTC-9.8 Pre and Sunfire TGA-5400 AMP. This is a powerful, clean sounding and cool running combo. I used to have a Rotel Ice Power amp and that worked out well too.

Unfortunately my HT room is too small for a class A/AB AMP (heat).

Great thread prerich. Not sure how I missed this one. Mine's in my sig, but it will be replaced with either the Emo UMC-1 or XMC-1.

Default This does this and this does that...

I have a receiver as a pre-pro somewhat. I have Polk LSis all around so I have an Onkyo TX-NR805 taking care of the highs and an Adcom GFA-7607 dealing with the mid-range in an active bi-amping configuration.

Are you sure you are using active bi-amping? Why type of active crossover are you using? Did you disconnect the built-in crossovers of your Polk speakers?

In my case, my first AVR was a Pioneer VSX 1019H-K recevier which was great until I upgraded my speakers. Then I came to the realization that the 1019 only pushed up to 30W x 7 channels (piss poor), and also realized it had no preouts, thus rendering it as basically a pre/pro without preouts. (b/c that's about what it was good for, as a pre/pro w/o the possibility of connect alternate amplification...shame on you Pioneer!)

I got all sorts of clipping as any educated person would assume. So I sold it for a loss and recently purchased a Marantz SR7002.

I am currently using my Pioneer Elite -23 receiver as a pre/pro. I will most likely upgrade to a dedicated pre/pro in the next 6 months. I am really eyeing the Marantz AV7005 that comes out in October.
