Sorry guys,

didn't mean to confuse anybody. The polk setup i threw up there wasn't exactly an increase in my budget - but an attempt to understand more about the frequency response and it's effect on sound quality. Still can't go out and spend $1300 (wish I could lol)

The Sony store about 2 minutes away from our house is apparently an authorized PSB dealer - might have to give them an audition/price out. While I'm there, what're thoughts on Sony SS bookshelves? haven't seen anybody say anything good (or bad) about them.

Brendon.

My whole set up is Sony SS speakers, They are actually very good speakers, I know they may not stand up to say Bowers & Wilkins 600 series, paradigms, eD's or mirage or better, but if you are considering the likes of Polks Monitor line, they are very comparable in sound and better priced. I suggest you at least listen to them, I really enjoy them. I got my whole set up(see sig) for $340. I was gonna almost pay that for 2 polk monitor 50 fronts... Yes I do know what great speakers sound like cause my dad has B&W 683s

Callass, those are the SS1000's you have as surrounds? I was thinking about SS3000 front w/ SS1000 rears - I'll have to give them a listen while I'm checking out the store.

Thanks.

KingOfGrills - just curious.. where'd you find that it's stable to 6ohm? specs I know it shows "dynamic power" but I didn't think that was a steady use kind of thing, just comes into play during a cymbal clash, or explosion?

So from what I'm gathering here, I'm looking for a set of bookshelves, with a frequency response rating as LOW (80Hz - 20KHz). That rating is the speakers ability to play (thinking musically now) Lower Notes/tones into higher notes/tones. Correct? I've never REALLY purchased good speakers before... so this'll be an experience. I don't particularly want to blind buy - BUT if there was a fantastic deal (boxing day maybe), with a decent return policy - then I might jump on something. The more "technical" understanding the better in that situation.

Taking what I've learned here:

Front L/R: Polk RTiA1 125W / 50Hz - 27KHz (Futureshop.ca @ 299.99)
Center: Polk CSiA4 180W / 55Hz - 27Kz (Futureshop.ca @ 299.99
Surrounds: Polk GXiA4 125W / 50Hz - 27Kz (Futureshop.ca @ 399.99)
Sub: eD A2-300 (eD @ 350.00)

$H!%. I blew my own budget (i'm sure won't be the first time)

ouch - $1349.97 Canadian, before taxes. woops.

BUT - as a learning excersize, this will give me a range between 18Hz - 27KHz. However, would my yamaha receiver really have enough to properly power these polks, or would they just be wasted/screaming out for a new receiver?

Thanks everyone, just bear with me, I think i'm slowly understanding.
You'll find directions on how to use 6 ohm speakers in your Yamaha's user manual on pages 14, 28, and 106. I've been using Yamaha receivers for years, and I've used 6 ohm speakers with my last two Yamaha receivers without issue. You can also use 4 ohm speakers as your front left and right main speakers.

Turn your receiver off, press and hold the tone control button, and press the power button to switch the impedance setting. Rotate the Program knob until you reach the change impedance mode, and change the impedance setting by pressing the tone selector button. You then lock it in place by pressing the power button.

Hello, I have a question as well. As some of you know, I'm starting to save money for a upgrade on a brand new Home Theatre System, and now I'm also considering changing my Speakers. Currently I've been using Sony Satellite Speakers which works well for me for the last few years.

Now, I've been thinking about getting a Delphonica set. Question is, should I be buying Floor Standing or Satellite Speakers??

Here are some examples that I plan on bidding at an auction by next week, as there are currently no bidders. Can anyone suggest which models I should get?

Brendon...

The PSB speakers are mint. My reciever has 100watts per channel and they sound epic. The size, price and quality can not be matched. I paid only $250 cdn for a pair of these. That clearly means that you can get the 5.1 for well under $1000 US.

You will not regret it.

Mlim- No experience personally, but I see a lot of comments on forums about them being B&W knockoffs and questioning their quality. Personally, I would be very hesitant to buy a speaker touting the specs it does without SOMEONE being able to vouch for them.

Thanks for the help. My retailer friend who runs a DVD/Blu-Ray Store, agrees also. So, I've taken both advices and NOT waste my time and money on this. I will still save money and wait for something better like B&W or Whafedale.
