the best time to purchase a tv, as a poster above has said, is when you find a deal that you can afford and fits your needs. there are great sales all year long, but people think that xmas/superbowl is the only time that deals are to be had. i have almost 6 years in retail, and as a store i have NEVER seen a discount given for cash. we get no benefit if you pay cash/check/charge. if you buy a tv around march or april, you can see some pretty nice deals on clearence models and open box displays. so really there is no need to wait for a specific time to buy a set from a b&m store. just mho

Where do you work?

I worked at Conn's (Texas, also in LA & OK) and customers frequently got "cash deals." I've heard of deals being done at Circuit City and Best Buy as well.

This is done because the store manager knows that you have cash, you're probably buying today and they'll do anything to make sure you buy from THEM, not the guys down the street. Once the customer leaves, they never come back, even though they ALWAYS say "we'll be back."

i work at circuit city. before that i worked at best buy 4yrs almost, and have done small stints at sears and hh gregg. i had a customer come in roughly an hour or so after i posted in this thread asking for a deal. he wanted a 50" 720p plasma that we had on sale that sat at 6% margin, and asked if id knock money off if he would pay cash. how you pay has absolutely no impact on any location in our area, it is WHAT you are purchasing. another lady came in later and took advantage of the $200 off samsung on the wall installs in 2 rooms in her home. tvs were 40" a630 for the bedroom and 52 a850 in her basement/recreation room. she bought brackets, power centers, onkyo 606, polk rm6750 and harmony remotes. also bought 2 ps3's and some monster cleaner and a few hdmi cables since she had coupons for the items. we cut her a deal, not because she was paying cash ( which she was going to, but decided to do the cc card instead) but because she was spending her hard earned money on something that allowed us to give her a great experience.after coupons and my store director price adjustments, she saved almost $900-$1000 give or take a few bucks here or there. never asked for it, just did it to say thank you to her. i dont know many retailers who will give you money off a product just for buying a product bare. why should i scratch your back if you arent scratching mine?
