That's an awesome threat. I still think you should proceed with the wrongful dismissal part of this. They had no right to fire you for you missing work because of your dad's medical problems. Sounds like your employer has no heart

If you don't contact a lawyer, you're an absolute sucker. Contact your Labor Board, they go after these scum-bags for free--I have seen it done and they get everything back in line REAL quick (plus interest!).

That's what really annoys me. People get walked over by their employer, and they know it's illegal, but the employee lets it happen. My exes mother works for McDonalds, and they would threaten to fire her if she took breaks on busy days, and go into the computer and edit her hours so it looked like she took the breaks when she didn't. And she didn't do a damn thing about it. I don't know why people don't stand up for themselves, especially at crumby jobs like that. Yes, but economy is bad, but I guarantee you can fill out apps at 5 fast food places in a day, and have a job within days.

Sorry about the rant, but ZackL, you definately should not let them get away with this without taking some actual legal action if you can.

I think a triangle would be better. This way you can rap on their head with your free hands while saying, "HELLLLLLLLLO, DID YOU FORGET SOMETHING!"

I call and ask if my last paycheck will be direct deposited and I am told by the assistant manager that the manager holds peoples last paychecks when they don't give notice, and I checked my direct deposit tonight around 2:30 and I didn't get any deposit at all.

This is insane considering a near death is the reason that I missed work and I cant be back in time for the next round of scheduled shifts! I never signed anything stating that no notice quitting will result in a hold on paychecks, in fact I never signed anything at ALL, although it is a well known establishment.

I live in Ontario, by the way. I checked up on labor laws but couldn't find anything specific to this. And no, now I have no plans to go back to that place.
I'm sorry to hear about this. I know how unruly companies can be regarding these types of things.

They can't hold your check PERMANENTLY. Basically, since you worked, you'll get paid. However, many companies elect to convert the last check to a paper check, as opposed to direct deposit, because it's closes up the electronic connection between ACH and bank. They have up to 4 weeks AFTER the printing of the check to mail it to you. They're given this time so that employees will go in for an exit interview of sorts.

The only time we hold checks is for the purpose of national security...

We have had to have a person removed from the location by police there check was mailed on the normal pay day.

They were not allowed to come get there check, as police were given there picture and had orders to arrest on sight..

They picture was shared with the FBI and several other organizations they lost there privilege to use the entire airport, agents were also given the employees picture, and every private terminal had him added to a special list.

Btw never **** with an airlines... it can be a very dangerous thing...

Yeah, it's just not the same anymore. I miss the good ole days of being able to laugh when they ask if somebody put something in your bag without you knowing about it. Now they search your bag anyway.
